In Progress

I did some transplanting yesterday and began an attempt at organizing the wasteland we call our back yard.

These are not my plants. I said I began an attempt. I have transplanted three plants. This is the fence and driveway of someone who's much further along in their project.

Still, I feel good about my progress. My little transplanting job has needed attention for quite a while, and finishing it made me eager to do more.

I could take "before" and "after" shots of the wasteland, though I won't be posting the "befores," and I have no idea how long it'll take to get to the "afters." For now, though, I'm happy I can take one photo, in one tiny corner of the yard, and label it "during."

I like that, "during"!
The main thing is that you started.

Maybe it will inspire me to step into my backyard jungle. Maybe not.

Nice light. I can almost hear the planet creak, like some Victorian contraption, as it trundles around to face the sun.

Dina, from the photos you've shown of the area around your place, I'll bet it can be lush with desert plants.

J, the light is what I liked about this. These plants were about to be put to bed, while across the street it was still bright day.

Good for you! Having gone through many gardening phases, I'm now all about the seeds.

Funny I should find your post today , as it's my designated "fix the backyard garden" day. As it it can all be done in an afternoon..

Hiker, I have some seeds for food plants and I have a dog. I know you have some raised beds. This is the only solution, I take it, unless you want pee for salad dressing?

Hi LD, and welcome to the ol' blog. I picked Sunday, too, and already it didn't work this week. I didn't shirt, however, and got it done Saturday instead. If we do a little each week, eventually we'll have something, right? (right?)

A few minutes here and a few minutes there will make a huge difference to your backyard over 10 years, Petrea. :0)

Your photo is stunning - a brilliant composition, except it composed itself all by itself and you were quick enough to catch it. John's imagination just cracks me up.

I should probably be put away for petunia neglect...

It's a good thing we're moving to a home with an all natural "yard"...

That's a great attempt!

Have you seen what Karen's achieved?

Good for you to at least make a start, any progress is better than none.

My backyard is a scary mess right now. It would make you feel much better about yours I bet! :)

Turns out it wasn't the planet --- it was my knees.

Please allow me bragging rights here. I SAW Chez J&P just last April and I thought their yard was delightful. Maybe Boz as the "yard decoration" made me fall in love........well I"m easy.

Seeds? Digging? Raised beds? I've four palm tree seedlings, a palm tree in a pot and relieved to not have killed them! I'm just happy I got a Topsy-Turvy hung today!

Virginia, I don't think you looked at the back yard, did you? Needs work. But I just looked at Bellis' link and I'm inspired. Although if I crawl around out there too much my knees will creak as loudly as J's.

Topsy Turvy? Whut?

John Sandel said...

They sound like seagulls when the chumbucket overturns. I'm just sayin' …

Petrea Burchard said...

Oh, well, then maybe not. Mine sound more like an old wicker rocking chair when a very large person sits in it.

"Topsy Turvy" is a cylindrical plastic bag with an opening in the bottom, hung by steel wires and is used to grow tomatoes, green peppers...whatever. I understand the idea was adapted from gallon milk jugs used for the same purpose. Someone has adapted it to become an "As Seen on TV" millionaire

Petrea Burchard said...

I suppose I could have googled it, but it's more interesting to hear it from you!

I believe it's when the knees stop making sounds that you need to worry...

Touché, Chieftess.

Boz has such a handsome physique and apparently a contemplative nature as well. What a great combo!
