Parrot Season

They arrive.

They enjoy a shrieking, screaming visit. I think they're having a good time.

They leave.
They'll be back.

Nice capture and lucky you to have local parrots, busy bright and brash (no idea what the rest are called!)

The Pomona fire is visible from the freeway bridges here, KBF. But I took these pictures ages ago.

Chieftess, they're birds! They have no boundaries! I love them, despite the racket.

Lauren, the birds woke me and I remembered I had these pictures, so I thought I'd share.

They're noisy and we always know they're there, but getting photos like this is rare because they're usually so well camouflaged in the tree. Did the tree have some tasty new shooots, I wonder? When I walk in Hahamongna at sunset, they come flying in from the west and head toward Altadena, chattering away, anxious to get home before their mothers get mad with them for being out late. I read recently that a pet parrot that could speak Spanish had escaped in Pasadena. If he joins the flock, they'll be bilingual.

Reminds me of "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill," a documentary with a very happy ending.

"Busy, bright and brash," I like that, Deb.

I am excited to have bilingual parrots, Bellis. Once they've all learned Spanish we can teach them English and they'll be trilingual.

I saw that, K! Ages, ages ago.

Glorious photos!

I don't know if this gives much of a flavor of the documentary. I remember sweeping views of Telegraph Hill.

Wonderful captures, Petrea!
I can imagine their cheerful vocalization. Love the tree too.

Great series of photos! I remember seeing the parrots on Telegraph Hill in SF when I first moved to the area in the late 90s, but I haven't seen them lately. I guess they'd rather be in Pasadena!

I love the parrots.

Thank you, Sonia!

Those Telegraph Hill parrots were a tourist attraction. I wonder where they're off to?

Me too, Margaret.

Remember the crows flying over the Illinois farmland? That's what this looks like.

Yeah. And then you hear me sigh.

Beautiful series, Petrea! We have them here too (don't ask me where they came from), but have never seen so many together.

Are they always around?

I drove through Pasadena today and waved. Did you see me? ;-)

JM, maybe yours came from different sources like ours did--pets, pet stores, tropical gardens, etc. Now they're a wild flock.

BD, I think they're always around but they're especially loud in winter.
I was at the Norton Simon Museum! I saw you! I waved back!

They come, they go, they'll be back. That about sums it up.
