Empty

It's Saturday. I thought we should have something festive!

This was one place I thought would survive the recession. We all want more for our dollar these days. But I never shopped there so I don't know what kind of value they offered, if any. I've noticed lately the parking lot's full, so someone's at least getting use out of that.

When I peeked in the windows I saw an expanse of tile and reflections.

But when I stood close to the building to photograph the colorful meters, the blinds moved.

Oh ~ that seems a bit unnerving. I hope Boz was with you! So if there have been a lot of cars there, I wonder ~ is someone sneaking in and giving ballroom dancing classes? Curious! Have a beautiful weekend, Petrea!

It might be some druggies are living there. Or maybe the ghosts of whomever was in business are there now.

Great Pictures, bravo!

What did you do? Run away as fast as you could?

I guess the $1 Club couldn't compete against the 99 Cent stores.

I was without my bozzyguard, Shell. You have a beautiful weekend, too!

Hello, Abe. My vote's on the business ghosts.

Thank you, Alf!

I didn't run, Bellis. I walked briskly.

I just love your composition in that first one.

Oh, Petrea, I bet you could use bits of this adventure to work into a scene in a novel you write! Very cool shots and story.

I feel bad for the people who used to shop there and don't get to shop there anymore. It's several blocks extra, if you're walking, to get to a 99 cent store. I think that's what I'd write about!

Thank you, Laurie. Those palm trees worked out nicely.

Well down here we have the Dollar Tree. I call it "the Tree" and all my friends know what I mean. If ours folds, I"m SOS.

Virginia, does your dollar tree look anything like this?

There was a piece about the 99 cent stores on KPCC a while back - they're having a really hard time finding things to sell at under a dollar nowadays.

I hadn't thought of that. I've noticed, though, their parking lot's packed with fancier cars lately.
