Hahamongna, the One and Only

I'm afraid I've left it to the last minute to remind you (ask, beg, plead) to send the City of Pasadena your opinion about whether or not you want soccer fields at Hahamongna Watershed Park.

Loren Pluth is the Projects Manager for Parks and Landscape, and he's the one to write to. The City needs to know if you oppose building a soccer field at Hahamongna or, more specifically, if you support the building of a soccer field at Muir High School.

You can email Mr. Pluth at lpluth@cityofpasadena.net, and we have until 5pm today to get our messages in.

A short gloss here in Altadena Patch shows why the issue is not a simple one. But we have so many places where we can create a garden. We have only one Hahamongna Watershed.

Also, there is a dog butt in this picture.

I think the City has provided a sample letter to send. Must get mine done. It seems to be a win win situation. The new soccer field will replace an existing softball field at the school, there's plenty of parking nearby away from homes, and it's far more accessible for local kids than Hahamongna on the La Canada side ever was. Plus the new site will be suitable for evening play in the winter. In Hahamongna, there would have been no lighting, making it unsuitable for after school play.

Thee's no greenery out in England yet - I miss Hahamongna already.

I do not think a mail from Belgium will do anything, either way
Happy easter
and great dog shot! :)

The odds of there being a soccer field now at Hahamongna are slim to none, but it's smart to appeal to people to let Loren kmow their opinions. Fun to see Boz hiding in plain sight!

Thanks for the reminder. I sent my letter. Hopefully Ann is right. But, just a few years ago the odds were the other way around.

Took me awhile to find the dog butt!!!

Hopefully, Ann's got an inside scoop!!! It does make much more sense!!! Good luck Pasadena!!! (and the surrounding areas!!!)

I do think we should continue to work on getting athletic fields removed from the master plan, though, so this problem doesn't rear its ugly head again.

No matter how beautiful the landscape, it can always be improved with a dog butt.

Just about anything can be improved by a dog butt.

Just sent off my letter. It was rambling but so what, right? I think it got the point across.

As for dog butts, I agree. Tommy's got a really cute one.

Boz is like the Hahamongna mascot. Always great to see him.

I think of Boz as the Hahamongna mascot, too, Susan. The park is his muse as well as mine.

Good luck -- I hope you are successful in convincing the City to remove all sports fields from Hahamongna.

The dog butt is what makes this photo very special.

That's by way of agreeing with you, Ms. M.

I am in favor of a soccer field at Muir (and not at Hahamongna), but not where they want to put it.

First, there is not really anyplace else on the campus to put a garden, and this is not just for decoration, it is a way for students to learn horticulture and sell the produce and flowers. It was put where two ancient "temporary" buildings sat for 40 years.

Second, the field is in the middle of the main campus, and while last time I looked it had a backstop, it isn't really a baseball field. You can't play baseball where there are buildings so close. It was used as a practice field for sports and band before and after class hours.

Third, the Muir soccer field is/was to the north of the football field. If that field is still there, that's where a new soccer pitch should be put.

Fourth, they have had soccer games on the football field for years, and that can continue.

I know it's been 5 1/2 years since my last kid graduated from Muir, but I don't think things have changed that much. Certainly displacing a student project for something that someone outside the school wants hasn't.

The soccer field north of the football field was still there last I looked. Admittedly, it's been a year or so since then.

? I thought that was where they planned to put it.

This is such a frustrating issue for me--I am completely against putting soccer, baseball, tennis, or whatever in Hahamongna, and I do think Muir is a perfect location. So many West Altadena kids go to Muir that it would benefit them to have a field there.

I just don't understand why the city and school district want folks to choose between two bad options.

Though, unfortunately, not surprising.

True dat, as they say. Perhaps they're trying to please not only the citizens, but financial interests. I don't like it, but it's a reality of living these days.
