I see what you mean, Bayside, probably not practical, or at least not on a two-car garage like this one. A lot of old garages in Pasadena have the barn door types, but come to think of it, they're single-car garages.
I like the light in the upper level. I think that maybe great art is being created there. And the basketball hoop is a nice homey touch, a familiar thing here taken to the Left Coast.
Love the light in the window. It'll be interesting to see if they modify the painting so that the upper and lower images look a bit more closely related. Maybe there's more detail in a day time pic. Who knows? In the meantime I'm loving what you did with this garage photo.

Sorry to be negative, but the new door is just not right for a historic garage of this age. Maybe if they make the color blend in a bit better it'd help. Pasadena City wouldn't have allowed this in a historic area - they are so fussy, but for good reason. My neighbors were even fined for removing bay windows to restore their craftsman house back to the way it was when it was built.
Someone could be living there even if they didn't get the right permits! Especially if it is in Altadena.
Speedway, is California the Left Coast? I always thought we were the Correct Coast. ;) And basketball is probably the most popular professional sport in Los Angeles. We loves our Lakers! And you can always see kids and young adults tossing hoops in the park or on a portable hoop in the street.
The barn doors are charming, but would be a pain to move all the time. (Although it would be good exercise). I love the lighting in the windows in the second pic. Perhaps someone has a little studio up there for art, writing, craft.
It may have been a coach house originally, with the coachman sleeping in a loft above the stable. Ah, those were the days. "James, bring the buggy round, we're off to church."
This is a fun project Petrea. I'm enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the doors. Those sliding barn doors are great. But probably not practical.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andy.

ReplyDeleteBarn doors look great, but just try and get a garage door opener for one!!! (There are some advantages to modern living)
ReplyDeleteLove the light glowing through the windows, like a giant Halloween pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteGreat art, Speedway, or a really cool slumber party.
ReplyDeleteYou make an excellent point, Chieftess.
I was attracted to the light in those windows, Geoff.
Very smart! I'd love a garage like that, Petrea; it's bigger than my house!

ReplyDeleteSomeone could be living there, Dive--if they got the proper permits.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Roberta.
This is a historic area, Bellis. I wonder--maybe they didn't get a permit?

ReplyDeleteI like your idea for a studio, Ms. M. Also your idea for an upper body workout.
ReplyDeleteBellis, that could very well be. Even our garage originally was a dwelling place, though it was never meant to be a permanent one.
ReplyDeletethose cracks remind me of my patio. Kind of has me concerned
