Night Walk

I don't suppose I'd go out alone after midnight, but I'm glad Boz and I can walk in our neighborhood after dark. He likes the shadows, the sounds, the unexpected. I can do without the intrigue, but it's there.

(Don't mind me. I'm trying out new templates and styles to see what works.)

  1. I will only walk at night w/someone else. Power walking at night is fun- only w/a friend.... I like this night shot, reminds me of a Kevin shot! :-)

  2. I've given up walking Dakota at night. We've had a black bear and her cub in the neighborhood. And I know Dakota would want to play! The photo is great, very moody.

  3. KBF, calling this a "Kevin shot" is high praise, thank you. I'd like to see what he'd do with my neighborhood.

Kevin McCollister is one of LA's best. He posts here: http://jimsonweed.blogspot.com/

Bayside, I know what you mean! Boz is enamored of horses, but I think "horseplay" would be disastrous for him. We also have coyotes in the neighborhood, speaking of disaster.

  4. "Orange Heights" describes this photo rather well. Your new template doesn't appear all at once on my screen (I have a Mac), so I have to scroll across to see the edges.

  5. Thanks, Bellis, that's useful.
It's not about the Mac (I have a Mac, too), it's about screen size. Can you not see all the printed information? Do you have to scroll with other sites? Maybe I need to choose a template that automatically reconfigures to each screen. Not sure how to do that. I'll keep working.

  6. It's fine on my 27" iMac, Petrea, but yes, I have to faff about with the slidey finger thing on my 13" Macbook Pro, so it's just a screen size issue. No prob.
Fabulous exposure on the night shot. Love those spooky globes.

  7. I only walk at night with one of the dogs, too. Moody is a good word for the photo. There's a sense of mystery to that dark corner.

  8. Great shades of Hopper! I know that corner perfectly well, but your eye transformed it.

  9. Thanks, Dive. This is the iPhone! I did nothing to it.

Your dogs will protect you, Susan. I don't think of Boz as a protector, but when he lies on the porch, no stranger approaches.

    Thank you, sweetie.

How's this template looking, folks? Trying a new one. Stark, that much I know.

  10. Great eye. I wonder if there are two competing fortune tellers who meet there with clients at three?

  11. Very atmospheric. I'm not sure if I feel safer or not as an over 50 person walking alone at night.

  12. Your photo has such a Pasadena feel to it. Wonderful. I can see all your great content on the screen (of my not so 'top of the range' PC). :) Super that you have kept your smashing book cover and 'you' at the top. Looks good!

  13. Okay, this template fits my laptop but the typeface is teeny! Plus I'd like some color. I am not finished.

If I found fortune tellers at that corner I'd be terrified, LH! But if I were out at 3am, I'd deserve it.

Linda, I suppose it depends on the predator. Since I can't predict that, I take protection! Rowr!

I'm glad you can see it all, Lauren. I'm moving in the right direction.

  14. Dang, it is teeny..I like this better than the blue u had up.. Isn't there an option to make the font bigger?

  15. Very Noir Petrea!!! Elegant!!!

I see it just fine on my 24" Mac screen...a bit void on color While the photo does stand out...I don't think the starkness compliments it...Are you attempting to switch to one of the "new" blogger templates?

  16. Ok, so on a dell widescreen, the photos and text are just fine, but all your stuff to the right is cut off about 1/2 or 2/3 of the way. As an example, your About me:
    I'm a lover of
    a thousand of
    English voice.

  17. Way too teeny, KBF. I've got time to work on it tonight.

Chieftess, I agree, I want the photo to be prominent but this is not complimentary to it. I liked the blue, but it doesn't fit small screens. As for the new templates, in a word, no.

Thanks, Karin, that's helpful info. But truly, I am a lover of a thousand of English voice. I mean, at least.

  18. I love the relief of finally living in a place where I can walk at night again (London was fine, but before that it was New Haven and Baltimore, neither were good after dark). Your night shot came out wonderfully. (Also, enjoying the new template look - I procrastinated updating mine forever. Have fun!)

  19. Lulu, I loved London at night. I was only there briefly. Chicago at night--depended on the neighborhood, but I don't know what it's like now.

I just tried another template. I am throwing spaghetti against the wall.

Also trying to get rid of some junk. Am I the only one who uses the "search this blog" function? What about "Follow by Email"? I follow by RSS feed so I don't know if people use that.

  20. Wonderful shot, Petrea.

Walking my dogs at night doesn't work for the following reason: I can't see to pick up the you-know-what after them.

  21. I know, I thought the cuts were rather poetic. But congrats, spaghetti stuck, you are now in full screen.

  22. Betty, you can get a really good flashlight app if you have a smartphone. My iPhone is also a Swiss Army knife.

Thanks, Karin. I'm still tweaking, but I like this one.

  23. Fantastic shot! Very "Hopper-esque".

Your blog layout is fine on my Dell widescreen. Nothing is cut off. It's a very clean look. And if I enlarge the text, it does not push the layout off the screen.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I rather like the Search the Blog function...I should get that one on mine...if not for others...for me when I'm trying to find an old post!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks, Ms. M! I'm glad the layout works for you. It seems to work for almost everyone, but not quite.

Chieftess, same here! Even if I'm the only one who uses it I think I'll keep it.

  26. We have had some lovely nights of late. Perfect for walking.

  27. Hey! That's just a few blocks over from my house! I always admire those globes. Things get crazy over there on Halloween!

  28. Hi Hillary, that's it. It's one of THE Halloween streets in town.
