Southern Light

He's at Europane on Colorado Blvd. near the Paseo. (We have to distinguish, because there are two Europanes on Colorado.) The window faces south, and at this time of year our sun stays low in the southern sky.

I just like the light.

  1. We must take advantage of the moments of sunshine that winter brings.

  2. That's not a Euro-pane; we don't have sunshine over here.

  3. Your spellcheck's stuffed.....

  4. I can imagine the warmth of that light!.

  5. I read "European" as well. Then I wondered how you knew there were only two Europeans on Colorado. Can you distinguish us so easily?

The late afternoon light is lovely, but it comes too soon - at 3 pm I feel the afternoon's only just started.

  6. I like the sun captured in the plastic cup.

  7. There are Europeans and Europanes and Europains.

Bellis, I thought Britain was officially not part of Europe? That goes against my grain, but I'm not in charge. Or is that only about currency?

  8. Petrea, this Euro-pain can take a short train ride to Paris so I regard myself as a part of Europe. The far right (yes, this country has its own share of the shouty and ignorant) try to pretend we're not European; show them a map and they faint with horror.

  9. European-Europane-Europain...whatever!!! I love the light and the shot!!!

(I have to confess though, Europane is not one of my favorite coffee spots...)

  10. Ah, I get it now, Dive. Thanks for cluing me in on the fine points. You shall be European then, and I shall come to Europe to visit you.

Chieftess, you and I both know Europane is hugely popular here. I wonder if it's the cachet? It's not a bad spot, just kind of a surprise after everyone tells you how fantastic it is.

  11. Exactly!!! Not bad...just not my number one choice...but then my number one choice is now in the Rite Aid parking lot with the best little outside area...oh...there's snow out there???? Guess I'll be hanging out inside by the fireplace!!!

The Looney Bean is my coffee spot of choice these days...and I frequently find Europeans here too!!!

  12. Goodness, is that someone reading from a piece of paper rather than an electronic gadget? How very quaint and non-european these days!

  13. Chieftess, I need a trip to Mammoth. I've never been to a Rite Aid with a fireplace. And Europeans and the Looney Bean!

Oh my gosh, Deb, you're right! Perhaps he comes from a quaint village in the Alps, or somewhere in the wilds of Transylvania.

  14. Oops!!! It's the Looney Bean that has the fireplace!!! The Rite Aid has been nicely remodeled though!! We've got a dog friendly guest room too!

  15. The light through the window and the cup is simply lovely!

The guy at the table looks like he's having a migraine. (I hope he's feeling better by now).

  16. I wouldn't wish that on him! But I doubt he had a migraine. If so, he'd have chosen a darker place to sit, and probably wouldn't have been reading!

  17. Oooh, I love the clouds at the top of the window. Love this photo. Love Europane too. Their salted caramel macarons are divine.

  18. Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I'll have to try those macarons.

  19. After all these years of CP
talking Macarons, and Shell Sheree painting them, and Virginia dePairs via Alabama also trying them...YOU have yet to try a Euro Pane (2 words) Mac?? Make it a New Yrs resolution!

And, the most recent accolade for those macs came from the LA Weekly this year: The Best Macarons in LA are in Pasadena!

Btw, your mention of Penny 4Your Thoughts recalls my one visit two it, brot on by one of your prior postings. It's one of the many articles/reviews I'm behind in writing! Frankly, I'll have to go back a 2nd time to update my memory of the place. Especially if they now have free WiFi! I like to have freebies in all parts of town I visit.

Happy Christmas & Macaron New Year!

  20. Ok Cafe!!! I concede!!! I have to try Europane's macaroons!!! Is 2013 the year of the macaroon???

  21. I wasn't talking about you, ChiefTess, but if the slap on the wrist applies!

The sea salt caramel macarons are the most popular. But my fav is the black/blue berry. The lemon is also good. So, yeah, next time to come down from your mammoth mountain.

  22. Thank you, Cafe, I will take that wrist slap and have myself a macaron!
