Yesterday we talked about light, and also about coffee shops. I got to thinking: if I had to choose, what would be my favorite coffee shop in Pasadena?
That's an easy one. I mean, if I had to choose, which I don't.
I love Penny For Your Thoughts for the beautiful clothes, unusual gifts (antique, handmade and/or new) and just plain wonderful atmosphere. It's also a sweet little coffee shop. Everyone who's ever been there loves the place. Yet it never feels crowded.
This photo shows the rear entrance from the parking lot, where there's plenty of room for our cars. We should meet there one of these days! You can get your Christmas shopping done in one fell swoop.
I should have saved this post because they're not open Sundays. Stop by and see Millie soon, but not today.
That looks so inviting, Petrea. When I win the lottery and make the pilgrimage to the Doo Dah Parade, can we stop in there for coffee?
ReplyDeleteI don't blame them for closing on a Sunday, but surely that would be one of their busiest days? I'm all for getting together there to spend a few pennies (oops, that means something else in England) and feast on the lovely baked goods.
ReplyDeleteI'll insist on it, Dive.
ReplyDeleteBellis, I forgot to mention that the baked goods are made by Karen Hirsch, who often sells at the Altadena Farmers Market. Good stuff.
yummmm...next time I'm down for a visit we'll have to meet for a cup!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is new to me. Thank you, looks inviting. (Looks warm, too. I'm freezing.)
ReplyDeleteIt's a date, Chieftess.
ReplyDeleteHiker, you'll like it. The back part is open-air, but it's cozy inside.
I drive by on occasion--I will have to stop in. It's just that when I'm driving by, I'm on the way to someplace!
ReplyDeleteI do so prefer Mom & Pops over Starbucks. Zona Rosa and Coffee Gallery are also great places. Haven't been to the little place behind Fox's in some time--I hope it's still there.
I think I should make a once-a-week pilgrimmage to these little havens.
Laura, I like those places, too. And I didn't even know there was a little place behind Fox's!
ReplyDeleteI like the "feeling" of this place and would love to go there if I lived in the area.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready - when should we go there? I like Zona Rosa, too. And is the Equator still there?
ReplyDeleteI know of no place like it, Ms. M.
ReplyDeleteWhenever you say, Adele. After Christmas, blogger meet-up. Equator, I don't know. I haven't been there in a while but I liked the place.
I'd like to join in on this Penny rendezvous. It's a charming place, in my old 'hood, more or less.
ReplyDeleteI think the Equator has morphed into an Asian fusion restaurant, but I should go by to confirm.
I rarely use chain coffee shops, so this would be right up my street.
ReplyDeleteVERY relaxing looking...
ReplyDelete"Penny Rendezvous." I like it, Susan. Do we want to go soon, to get a holiday break? Or wait 'til after the Rose Bowl madness and go in January? I'll set a date and time (probably a Saturday), warn Millie, and we can all just show up.
ReplyDeleteI say the chains come in handy only when there's nothing else. Sometimes I need my coffee! If there's a choice, my choice is the small business (not just for coffee). I think that's the way we'll get our economy back on track. The only exception is WalMart. I won't shop there even if there's no other choice.
You tell when. I'll be there.
ReplyDeleteDec 29 and Jan 5 are both good Penny Rendezvous days for me. After that I start school again for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI'll stop by to see Millie and ask her about those dates. I doubt there will be hordes of us, but it can't hurt to prepare her for a small group. I'll let you all know.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very inviting indeed, I do love a good cozy coffee shop. They're harder to find than one thinks! Looks like you've a gem there:)
ReplyDeleteJohn and I stopped by "Penny" today (12/22) and talked to Millie. She's taking a vacation and closing the store briefly, so we arranged for Saturday, January 12th, 10:30 a.m. as the PDP coffee date. I'll post about it to remind you, but mark your calendars now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for arranging the Penny Rendezvous (is that what we're calling it?). I'm not sure if I can make it but I will try.
ReplyDeleteI knew it might not be a good date for you, Susan, but she wasn't going to be there for your other dates! I'll do a post about it, too, so everyone knows. I warned her...
