Worm Kayak

It rained here most of the day yesterday. The neighborhood kids took advantage of the streams running in the gutters and made a couple of kayaks for the worms.

These are the girls, mind you. I'm not sure what the boys were up to.

This worm is fitted with its own kayak, oar, umbrella and seat belt. The way things work around here, he/she/it was about to head east. Bon voyage!

For anything worm-related, I refer to this little ditty -

This looks like mucky fun.
Glad you enjoyed the interview and my blog.

Thanks, Dina. I smelled photo op!

Speedway, that is something that was not in my repertoire.

Hello William, thanks for your visit.
William refers to his interview at the new and wonderful City Daily Photo website, conducted by Julie Storry of Sidney Eye.
William's blog is Hull and Hereabouts. His pictures tell the story of Hull, and his voice is snappy.

Very nouvelle cuisine. Beautifully presented but probably not as tasty as it looks.

Love the contrast of warm clothing and kayak. Ooo, the dirty hands just make me happy. Thanks for sharing.

It was a lucky moment. Not a tasty one.

I was going to praise the girls' kindness to worms, but Dive's take on it derailed me.

Could you ask that girl what it's like to have three hands?

Absolute sweetness to the full. So glad you were in the right place at the right time to share this with us. Lovely. Kinda neat that you had some rain too.

"These are the girls," Bellis. I got two of them in the picture.

LOL, I felt lucky--worm pics and rain all in one day.

I love those girls in your street, they're so imaginative. But as you say, what were the boys doing? It's a very sharp close-up photo, beautiful.

What a very sweet endeavor by these girls to try to save worms that might otherwise dry up on the sidewalk (always a sad sight). Is that a little seat belt they've crafted? Great to see girls mucking about outside!

The boys are just as imaginative, Bellis. It's possible they were out questing with their trusty swords.

Last year the curled up fat bugs (I forget what they're called) were all the rage with the girls, Katie. This year it seems to be worms. They're more rare, after all.

Perfect moment! Except for the worms. I think they might look a wee bit scared!

Well that's creative. Was the worm object to the method or direction of travel?

Petrea Burchard said...

Honestly, I thought the worm looked uncomfortable but it was hard to tell.

That is one of the sweetest things I've ever seen! Aww... such creative minds dwelling in your neighborhood!

I have to hand it to the parents, Lulu. They always encourage, never stifle.

This is great! When my brother and I were kids, we used to make little bark boats, too, to float down a little run-off stream. But we didn't put worms in them. Not having any live creatures immediately available, we used little twigs and small leaves and pretended they were people.

Ms. M, good imaginations make use of what's available.
