Shopping Mecca

It's one of the streetlamps on Colorado Blvd. near Madison. I don't think this lamp is an antique, or particularly special, though I could be wrong. I just like the shot.

I found a nice picture on Flickr of the buildings in the background, which is a good thing because I didn't have a photo of my own.

Colorado Blvd. is the road to the world class shopping mecca that is Pasadena. You'd think, as many pictures as I've taken of this town, I'd have all the pictures I need. But on the road to this particular mecca I am less pilgrim than infidel.

I think there is definitely something special about this lamp. It seems to be very Pasadena-ish to me.

I believe these are updated versions of what has been in the city for eons now (actual eons, not, like, you know, like, last week, you know).

The only thing that says "Pasadena" more to me are the "string of pearls" lights running down Millionaire's Row aka Orange Grove.

If I had the money I'd be a big spender, KBF, and one thing I'd do is eat at restaurants all the time.

These lamps line Colorado Blvd., Adele. The are very Pasadena-ish, as you say.

Trish, I'd love to set up a tripod in the middle of Orange Grove Blvd. on a quiet night, and take the shot you're thinking of. It would likely be the last photo I'd take!

Great shot, Petrea. Love the lines and especially love that pure blue Pasadena sky.

Love how you put it in the last sentence.

It's only blue when we look straight up, Dive.

Dina, it's true, I am a shopping atheist. I'd be super-religious about it if I were rich, but I already said that.

I recognize this building. Love it. My church is just across the street. Don't recall the lamp though. Feel like I have had a moment in Pasadena. Thank you!

A very appealing shot Petrea. Just a thought but looking at that angle, and the fact a lamppost features heavily - did Boz take this one?!

Deb, you made me laugh! I can't even remember where on Colorado this is, as I rarely walk in that area - it needs some shade trees. Look at that lovely old bank building. Banks nowadays have boring, cookie cutter architecture, don't they?

I can see I need to get over there and take more pictures. LOL mentions one of the prettiest churches in town and I have only one picture of it, from the rear:

Is that the one?

Deb, I will check his records. I'd hate not to give credit where it's due.

Yes, Bellis, we have some pretty, old banks. No more shade trees on Colorado, though.

Boz has his own camera, but we're afraid to check the SD card.

Crisp, clean building, isn't it?

Petrea Burchard said...

It is. If I'm not mistaken, it might be so clean that it's empty.

Love the way you (or Boz) framed this photo. I like lamps like that, much more aesthetic than regular streetlights.

That part of Colorado has changed so much in the last two decades. I remember when it was pretty divy, but now I'm showing my age..

Boz is a good photographer, Ms. M.

25, Margaret, or 26?

Petrea--I believe there have been several photos taken looking down The Row. I suspect back when there were many fewer vehicles traveling it and no "traffic calming". I have fond memories of the string of pearls.

Have friends who bought a GoPro Hero 3 to strap to their "new" dog (95lb lab mix they just rescued). They've had a ball watching what he sees from his perspective. Boz could keep you two entertained for a long time!

I do have to agree with Margaret. I used to change buses at FO&Colorado in the early 80's. I was told not to look anyone in the eye, or speak to anyone. I also wasn't allowed to walk from there to the "new" mall that opened, as that wasn't a great section of town at the time. Guess we can show our age together Margaret! ;-)

I don't know what the "strong of pearls" is, Trish, or "The Row," but that sounds like old timey Pasadena, am I right?

I should have posted a map! Colorado and Madison is east of the Paseo, east of Los Robles, not in Old Town.

I'd like to get Boz a camera. Maybe for Christmas. But he asked for a cat.
