I took this photo for no other reason but the light in the window from the late-day sun.
I got the shot yesterday--walked too far to get it, wearing the wrong shoes, and now my feet hurt. It's a good enough excuse to stay home today and write, something I often feel I don't have enough time to do. (And I always feel like I don't get enough writing done.) Boz will get a shorter walk this evening, which he won't mind. I think his feet hurt a little bit, too.
Our new neighbors move in today. Boz and I will take them some store-bought scones. (I trust our toes can make it across the street and back.) Don't scold me for not baking; nobody wants homemade baked goods from me, they taste like old sweaters, or dog feet, or the wrong shoes.

Did u notice how everything is even w/that house? manicured lawn, amount of roses, cypresses, siding , even the folds of the drapes... good shot.. well worth the walk.
Pronounced "scowns", no doubt. There's your problem - pronounced "sconn", they taste infinitely better..
so much topiary. Very Pasadena.
It is symmetrical, KBF. Very tidy.
JB, they're store-bought. It goes without saying they have to be mis-pronounced as well.
I guess so, Jean. I don't fault people for sculpting their bushes but I prefer a wilder look.
I think you have the makings of an eclectic niche home-bakery there, Petrea.
I assume you mean feet, Dive? Yes, I think so. I'm not sure where to acquire supplies but I suppose I could become the neighborhood wicked witch.
I've never tasted old sweaters or dog feet, but I'll have to trust you on that. ;-)
Great pic -- such a cute house!
I don't think store bought cones would work for these neighbors...
Scones!!! I meant scones!!!
I envision June Cleaver in her shirtwaist dress with heels and pearls and her apron....whipping up a dozen perfect scones in her perfect little kitchen inside...
Leslie, if you've never tasted dog feet you are missing out.
It is a lovely house, isn't it? A doll house, a sweetie, and I think June Cleaver fits in perfectly.
On the other hand or foot, you rock the banana bread.
You're right. My banana bread's not bad. Thank you for mentioning it.
Although I can't speak for your feet (and shouldn't really attempt to do so), I think this photo was very worth the walk. I want to go in, sit down, and hope that someone has brought them some nice banana bread, and that they will offer some to me!
mmmmm...banana bread with a smear of sweet orange butter...yummm!!!
A very well behaved house.
You are a very good neighbor, and I a sure everyone on your street knows that.
Maybe, Margaret, but honestly it takes a lot to get me to bake.
Cute house (but bummer you walked too far in the wrong shoes to get this delightful photo). The shrubbery looks like a Wack-a-Mole game with all the pegs popped up. I have a freezer full of scones as every time my mom makes them for book club or investment group or whatever she always freezes a bunch in a big zip-lock and makes me take them. Thanks mom!
Peaceful photo with the lovely light across the window. I hope you got some writing done today while you rested your feet. I imagine Boz was happy to go for a "scone run" later on.
Katie, I've never played Wack-a-Mole but at least now I know how you spend your free time. If you ever invite me to visit and play a game, perhaps you'll share your scones with me.
Thanks, Ms. M, it was a good writing day! I have to plan, you know, or the minutiae takes over.
I understand why you stopped. The light is special, and the place looks nice, and I guess there are lots of roses on the other side of the fence.
Anyway, banana bread sounds great....
I am sure that you are very good at baking.
And your neighbors will be very pleased about the scones!:)
Hard to say about the roses, Gunn, but it seems right for this house to have them. It's a sweet spot on a sweet street.
Oh, my gosh - that's my neighbors' house! Wonderful couple and two great kids and they just sold it and moved. :( And I feel sorry to spoil the image, but no June Cleaver lived there. An artist and a screen-writer. And very precocious children. I will miss them terribly.
BettyS, my new neighbors also know them. Popular folks, apparently they'll be missed. I hope you like your new neighbors as much as I like mine.
Oh, me, too. In my 21 years on this block, I've seen so many people come and go, and it is always hard for me when people I've come to know and care about move on. But I'll be there with my hand out to meet the new, hopefully, great neighbor! And someday, I'll be the one moving on...
