I dropped my friend off at Accurate Autoworks on Hill Street (she loves these guys) and took a "U" through the garage. I took this picture through the windshield, which apparently I need to clean before I do any more behind-the-wheel photography.

Across Hill Street is the empty lot of what used to be Pasadena Ford. Nothing much has changed there in the last three years.

See the poll at top left? Please vote for your favorite comment from yesterday from among the nominees below. Feel free to vote whether you made a comment yesterday or not, whether you've been here before or not, whether you understand why we're voting or not...

The nominees are:

Jean Spitzer:
It followed me home. Can I keep it?

Pasadena Adjacent:
Segway "as is"
Manufacturer Recommendation SPF 40

Susan Campisi
In a spark of creative genius driven by a low budget, John decides to save production costs on "Strong Love" by using the mower as film reel. Petrea is recruited as PA (production assistant, not Pasadena Adjacent of course).

Frank Zgonc
No harmful CO2 emission unless the operator ate beans the day before ;)

Clifford Beshers
My! What big reels you have, Grandma!

You have until midnight tonight to vote. I'll announce the winners tomorrow. Probably not first thing, I doubt I'll stay up 'til midnight.

Oh, I don't know... the windscreen adds a certain grittiness to your photography, Petrea. That's a wonderful collection of Zen Monday comments ~ I'm going to have to mull it over or draw one out of a hat, as it's a tough choice!

Everywhere you look there's an empty lot or store where something used to be. But at least you caught a man with a briefcase going to work; life goes on...

I'm enjoying the little votey thingy, Shell. Perhaps we'll use it more. But it does mean deciding.

Kevin, that's the bright side and you're right to see it.

Love the perspective the light and dark provide.

When I lived in RI, if you were giving directions to someone they always started of with..."Do you know where------used to be?"

Bellis said...

Bayside, they must have got that from England, where major road junctions are referred to as Black Cat, Brown Fox, and Coach and Horses, long after the pub that once stood there. No use for a newcomer.

Accurate did a really good job on my car, but I went back to Honda because they have a much nicer waiting room. So shallow.

Petrea Burchard said...

I wouldn't be surprised if RI had a few traditions that were holdovers from the mother country.

As for fine waiting rooms, I usually leave the car and come back later. (My car is still under warranty and the television's always on at Glendale Nissan so I'd rather not stay, it's all talk shows and game shows.)

I'm recommending a mechanic in the adjacent's. The guy is reasonable and has kept more then a few beaters on the road (Mr V's 1990 Buick Skylark). It's also across from our library which is the best waiting room ever.

Palmer Auto (sorry Pasadena but then you get more then enough of my money)

Bellis: I bought a new Toyota last year and the last time I took it in for service a caterer showed up, set up sandwiches, lemonade, salad and dessert for the customers in the waiting room. I couldn't believe my eyes. Unfortunately, that was my last visit under warranty. Waiting rooms sure have changed. My last new car was in 1990 and the waiting room was hard, plastic, orange chairs and three year old magazines.

Keeping beaters on the road is an art, PA. And I agree about libraries. Best places to while away time.

SANDWICHES? LEMONADE? This does not happen. Was it free?

BaysideLife said...

Absolutely free. Gotta love Florida.:) Maybe it was a special day, like customer appreciation day and I was just in the right place at the right time.

I can't vote, three of these people are friends and they're all desperate for a key chain.

Petrea Burchard said...

They'll never know it was you, Hiker.

Bellis said...

I want to vote for all of them - they were all equally good, and how can I decide between friends? Thank goodness it's anon.

I like the dirty windshield look. But then, I take most of my Austin nature photos through a dirty window.

Not the deer, Jean! Tell me not the deer.

By the way, the contest is heating up. The competition is going wild. Probably at least eleven or twelve people have voted. It's amazing! You have until midnight so call your friends and vote vote vote.

Good photos with the shadows and light -- and the windshield speckles. Some people add "noise" to their photos to get a grainy feel. So the speckles in your photo add an authentic, yet aesthetic touch :)

I despise the traitorous little votey thing! I tried to rig it to get more votes, but it refused to budge!

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Ms. M. Authentic windshield schmutz, for sure.

Cliff, I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you. Recruit your Facebook friends?

I can't believe how much fun that voting was. I may have to "copy" you (which my little students say is a good thing), even though I have nothing to vote about. Will have to shamelessly make up a contest, because it was so cool.

I love this photo - even the schmutz effect. Is the old Pasadena Ford lot the one where they have put some sort of pop-up Home Depot Garden Center? Or is that further west?

Jean Spitzer said...

Fraid so.

Petrea Burchard said...

That's the one, Adele.

Cool photo. Sorry I missed the poll! It was fun, belatedly.
