Oh, I don't know... the windscreen adds a certain grittiness to your photography, Petrea. That's a wonderful collection of Zen Monday comments ~ I'm going to have to mull it over or draw one out of a hat, as it's a tough choice!
Everywhere you look there's an empty lot or store where something used to be. But at least you caught a man with a briefcase going to work; life goes on...
I'm enjoying the little votey thingy, Shell. Perhaps we'll use it more. But it does mean deciding.

When I lived in RI, if you were giving directions to someone they always started of with..."Do you know where------used to be?"
Bayside, they must have got that from England, where major road junctions are referred to as Black Cat, Brown Fox, and Coach and Horses, long after the pub that once stood there. No use for a newcomer.
Accurate did a really good job on my car, but I went back to Honda because they have a much nicer waiting room. So shallow.
I wouldn't be surprised if RI had a few traditions that were holdovers from the mother country.
As for fine waiting rooms, I usually leave the car and come back later. (My car is still under warranty and the television's always on at Glendale Nissan so I'd rather not stay, it's all talk shows and game shows.)
I'm recommending a mechanic in the adjacent's. The guy is reasonable and has kept more then a few beaters on the road (Mr V's 1990 Buick Skylark). It's also across from our library which is the best waiting room ever.

Bellis: I bought a new Toyota last year and the last time I took it in for service a caterer showed up, set up sandwiches, lemonade, salad and dessert for the customers in the waiting room. I couldn't believe my eyes. Unfortunately, that was my last visit under warranty. Waiting rooms sure have changed. My last new car was in 1990 and the waiting room was hard, plastic, orange chairs and three year old magazines.
Keeping beaters on the road is an art, PA. And I agree about libraries. Best places to while away time.

I like the dirty windshield look. But then, I take most of my Austin nature photos through a dirty window.

Good photos with the shadows and light -- and the windshield speckles. Some people add "noise" to their photos to get a grainy feel. So the speckles in your photo add an authentic, yet aesthetic touch :)

I can't believe how much fun that voting was. I may have to "copy" you (which my little students say is a good thing), even though I have nothing to vote about. Will have to shamelessly make up a contest, because it was so cool.
I love this photo - even the schmutz effect. Is the old Pasadena Ford lot the one where they have put some sort of pop-up Home Depot Garden Center? Or is that further west?
