ltdLive 2012

Pasadena Convention Center

Is it just me or is your calendar suddenly full, too? Yesterday morning I went to a seminar. In the evening I attended a meeting. Today I'm working and I have a meeting, and tomorrow there's more to come. Many events want my attention and some of them I'm even interested in. I think it's partly exuberance in the new year, partly a need to get something going in a tough economy.

Worth checking out at the Pasadena Convention Center on February 1st and 2nd: ltdLive 2012, a Conference for Entrepreneurial Women. ltdLive was created by Pasadena author and entrepreneur Nada Jones for "women who live at the intersection where business and life converge." Meaning, perhaps you're stuck at home with three kids and perhaps you'd like to occupy your brain with something else and make some money in the process. Or perhaps you're already an entrepreneur, and you're ready to take your business to the next level. Dance atop the glass ceiling in your glass slippers, as it were.

We used Nada's book, Sixteen Weeks to Your Dream Business, as a jumping off point for the Business Builders' Boot Camp in which I participated--goodness--two years ago. Nada came to our final session and helped critique business plan presentations. She's friendly and approachable, not to mention a smart business person who knows how to motivate others to stop sitting around dreaming and start doing the thing they've been dreaming about doing.

I was going to call her a sharp cookie but then I thought, that doesn't sound appetizing at all.

Visit ltdlive.com for details and to sign up. This might be your year.

I like the photo. I should probably know this, but where was it taken?

Oops. I'll label it, thanks for asking.
It's the Pasadena Convention center. The main building in the picture is the oldest one, and I took this from the east end of the front.

The photo confused me too at first - the paving made me think it was Garfield by City Hall. i guess a lot of money has gone into nice paving to unify the two areas.

ItdLive have a very feminine website - unusual but pretty.

My day timer's not full, the buffer in my brain is.

Very attractive convention center; looks almost like a college campus. Although I'm not very entrepreneurial, the conference sounds interesting.

If I get to come out to see you all again, maybe I need to schedule it during one of these fabulous workshops!!!

Thanks, Patrizzi. Yes it is, part of the convention center but also the Civic Auditorium. I suppose I'd best go fix that label again. Duh.

It's a lovely, historic building, part of Pasadena's 1920's civic center which includes the Central Library, City Hall and the post office. And of course Paseo Colorado.

Desiree, I'm having a little of that, too. I've been saving old posts and I came across one from last year called "A Piece of My Mind" that mostly said, "blah blah blah." Seriously.

It's funny, Katie, I think I'm not naturally entrepreneurial either. I don't want to make or sell things. But I'm interested in business and knowing how to do it. If/when I get my book published, I'll need to know how to, uh, entreprenne.

Oh, see? Virginia knows what I mean.

Remember that quote from George W. Bush? "The trouble with the French is that they don't have a word for entrepreneur."

I like the photo, too. The conference does sound interesting. If you go, let us know what it was like, what you learned....

Sounds like a great event.

Hahahaha, Bellis!

Likewise, as Ms. M says, if anybody goes, give us a report.

I agree, Margaret.

Sounds like an enlightening conference!!! I've been to the Civic Auditorium numerous times and still I thought it was the courthouse!!!

The original Civic Center was designed in the shape of a grand European plaza with the City Hall on the east, the Central Library to the north, and the Civic Auditorium on the south. It was beautiful.

The hulking Paseo Colorado mall (I think it was originally called the Plaza Pasadena or ?) intruded, destroying the beauty of the original plan. Subsequent remodeling opened up a portion of what had been a huge inward facing block of architectural nothingness, but it was not to be the same. Once these monster buildings are allowed to be built for commercial purposes, grace and beauty rarely return.

I couldn't agree with you more, Anonymous. I'm afraid the Paseo isn't going anywhere, but when one sees photos of the original Civic Center plaza one would like to see the Paseo disappear. "Monster" is a good word for it. The good thing I can say about it is that people have jobs there. Other than that, it's an eyesore.
