The weekend was good preparation for tomorrow's freaky fun. I saw kids of all sizes, all over town, heading out in their costumes. Some were on their way to parties, some were shopping, one was just going on a hike with devil horns on her head.
Here's your quiz: take a look at this decorated yard and see if you can identify the one scary object that's a permanent fixture.

I can't figure out what it actually is, so I used MS Paint to help me with my guess: http://tinyurl.com/62j6d3e
This photo really has me missing the USA!
Looks like the obelisk is real... do they have a dog or grandpa buried there or something like that???
I know, Teacher! I know! It's that thing with the squirrel on it!
That fence looks pretty scary, and the obelisk certainly looks real enough, but what in hairy hell is that thing with the squirrel on top?
I can't fool you people.
It's not a squirrel, I don't think, but it looks like one because of the angle I chose. The whole thing is a ceramic cocoon. I believe it was made by an artist living in the house. I should get a shot of it when there are no decorations to distract from it. It's such a treat to be walking down this lovely, tree-lined street and to come across this giant thing hanging from the tree. It looks very real.
Gypsy Chef, you're living my dream! You must all click on her blog. Dive, at least, I know you have to. And Tracy I think you'll like it, too. In fact, Gypsy, you should click on Tracy's blog, too!
The mortgage.
It reminds me of that video of mating slugs. Cool.
JS: Har.
Vanda: You say that like we've all seen that video. "Oh yeah, the mating slugs. I love that!"
I was thinking it was that ... thing, but I wouldn't have known what to call it. I love the green and orange in this photo.
I'm off to walk Louise. I hope I see kids in costumes.
Ah, Gypsy Chef is living my dream too!
Thanks, Petrea. Wonderful stuff. Another bookmark to make my mouth water, darn it.
I know, just what we need, another blog to follow!
The ceramic sculpture in the foreground with the shino glazed lid
I thought it was a giant ice cream cone with two doughnuts on it! That's a beautiful Halloween house ( or Holloween as you Americans seem to pronounce it).
I'm scared of little monsters coming to my door but I have some body parts chocs to give them. Accidentally left an eyeball, teeth and finger out in the evil talking pumpkin the other night and a skunk ate them. Left a big stink, so I don't think he liked them.
I guess I, once again, ignored the obvious when I thought the twirly thing with the squirrel had to be part of the festivities.
"The mortgage" - Ha!
Oh god, I forgot to buy candy.
Bellis, anyone who says "Holloween" needs further schooling.
You mean there are people who haven't seen the mating slugs yet??? It's narrated by David Attenborough!

Oh, gawd ... the mating slugs. Slimy eroticism ... Le Cirque de Limaces.
I thought the obelisk because I didn't read your post properly, sigh
mating slugs? that's 3+ minutes I wish I could have back!
I didn't see kids in costumes Saturday or Sunday....I did see some interesting crowds in the candy aisle
Vanda, apparently billions of people haven't seen the mating slugs yet. Only 484 views (at least 10 of them today).
Is it the giant "carrot" statue?
Mortgage? Ha! That IS scary!
Happy Halloween!
You are all so funny. I can tell who reads the other comments and who doesn't. I guess today it would be cheating!
I was looking for a wonderfully decorated house.... This one really makes me smile!
Perfect! Have fun passing out the loot--last year I think we snagged two trick or treaters
Me too, Steve. Boz and I like to walk by it.
Desiree, what happened on your block? We used to get at least a few up there. Or maybe my memory's incorrect.
