You may be aware that the first of the month is Theme Day around the City Daily Photo world. Today's theme is "postcard-worthy." I think this eastward view of the San Gabriel Mountains from the lookout at Mount Wilson lives up to the theme.
If you've stopped in for your Monday Zen, never fear: we'll have one of our rare Zen Tuesdays tomorrow.
City Daily Photo is now 1408 blogs strong; the newest is Guatemala Daily Photo.

Breathtakingly beautiful, Petrea, and definitely postcard-worthy.
I think the word for this is magnificent - I remember when I first came to France and commented on a meal - I said it was 'magnifique' and my host said 'Magnifique is for mountains' and I'm sure your photo is what he had in mind. Stunning.
Ooh goodness that's a definite postcard! Lovely.
beautiful view before bed... I love LA!
It's most appropriate and glorious, Petrea. I just can't figure out how to write on the back of it... {you'd think it would be easier for me, being upside-down and all}.
Oh yeah, I'll buy this postcard for sure.
what a beautiful view!
oh beautiful!
A very nice, postcard-worthy photo. And Zen Monday on a Tuesday is good too.
"Magnifique is for mountains," I like that!
A visit to Mount Wilson is truly worth it--the views are breathtaking. This is one of those photos that has everything to do with the view and little to do with the photographer.
After Zen Tuesday, I think we'll make it Mount Wilson Week here on PDP. I took a lot of pictures there and it's such an interesting place. Its first telescope was built in 1904, and the historic telescope where Hubble discovered that there are galaxies beyond the Milky Way is still there.
Great choice for a postcard. I'd love to send my friends back home views of our amazing mountain scenery but they're impossible to find.
The difference between the green forest in the foreground and the burnt, bare, mountains behind is striking. Thank goodness the fire service stepped up their efforts and saved the telescopes and antennae on Mt Wilson, else the fire could have engulfed the entire forest.
beautiful shot Petrea!
like Bellis, I was struck by the green in front and grey/brown of the distance (and I don't mean LA's smog problem). It is almost as if the green couldn't reach out to the end of the photograph, bleeding to a black and white at the end. very cool shot!
It certainly is postcard worthy! How beautiful.
Bellis and Trish point out something I should have mentioned in the post: the miles of brown you're seeing are where the forest burned in the 2009 Station Fire.
The Mount Wilson Observatory is so important--you can see as you approach it exactly where the firefighters placed the most effort, and how close the fire got. There are charred trees alongside the paths among the telescopes.
I really think my SGV shot is pretty lacking compared to what you've posted today...
Beautiful! It's quite a dramatic illustration of the Station Fire devastation. A visit to Mount Wilson is on my Southern California bucket list.
Looking from this height I can not decide if you are a bird. or a flying witch. With camera.
Bravo.
PS. Looks like my answer to you warmest letter will happen when I retire, not earlier then 2030. Read your posts, so very sorry about your leg and hope you will be fine soon. Try ice-cream!
Ben, on the contrary, I think everyone should visit your post today.
Susan, Mount Wilson should be on every southern Californian's bucket list.
Irina, I like all those choices: bird, witch and ice cream!
It is a beautiful view - with telescopes, no less! It makes me doubly envious.
Thank you very much for the mention Petrea, I love the photo and we certainly do want to be there!
Thanks for all your beautiful comments today!
Oh yeah, that's the one. Brava.
Magnificent! Certainly "post card worthy"!
You were standing in that roost. I love it there
Thanks, everyone. Me too, PA.
