Pic of a Twit

When I was a kid, my nickname was Tweeter.

Please don't laugh, but yesterday I finally figured out how to upload a photo to Twitter using Twitpic. The first time I looked at Twitpic I must have been distracted or upside-down or sleep-walking, because it's about as easy as an application can be. Yesterday I cleared my desk and sat down with a cup of coffee, determined to figure it out, and it was like figuring out how to open an envelope.

This is the photo I posted. I hope you don't mind me posting it again here. I don't know if most of you follow me on Twitter. (There's a little birdie button over there on the upper left if you should choose to do so.) Even if you follow me, the chances that you were on at the moment I posted the picture are so slim that I don't mind posting it again.

I took the shot from my antique iPhone. My thought when I saw this was, I hope I never have to choose between natural light and bookshelves.

You know, when I was a kid, besides the fact that we
had no windows
or bookshelves,
walked to school ten miles in the snow,
made our own toys,
slaughtered our own chickens,
churned our own butter
and
made our own clothes out of burlap bags,
"twit" was something you called someone you thought very little of.

But I was Tweeter which, as I remember it, was quite another thing.

When I was a kid, times were so tough, we had to be our own adults. Now times are so much better: we get to be like kids again! Except when I was a kid, time were so tough, we … well, never mind.

It turns out that churning your own butter these days is quite easy and rewarding:

Hello Tweeter.
That exposure must be bad for the books, but it makes a great pic.

You know, in Israeli Hebrew, Twitter comes out sound like "tweeter."

Tweeter's a great name.
That's my kind of house; give me books over daylight any time. But then I'm from the frozen north and your type of daylight only comes to visit once or twice a year.
I love the concept of an "antique iPhone".

I follow you on Twitter, Petrea, but I haven't figured out yet how to actually keep up with everything. So many tweets in my streams go straight through to the keeper. Ergo, your fine photo is new to me and I love it.

I meant to ask ~ was your nickname further nicknamed to Tweetie-Pie?

Tweeter, sweet:)

Tweeter's no twit! Ever!

No Tweetie Pie, just Tweeter.

That butter sounds good, Cliff. I need to get a mixer with more than one setting.

Dina, in some ways I'd fit right in in Israel and in others I'd stick out like a sore thumb.

Poor Dive. I don't think I could give up books but I can't give up sunlight either. I hope I never have to choose.

Shell, what's the keeper? Another application I have to learn, I suppose.

Italo: I try.

Speedway: It depends on what you mean by "twit."

far better to be a tweeter then a tweaker

When I was a baby I looked like Tweetie Pie. Fortunately I outgrew it (I think) and the name never stuck.

I follow you on Twitter but, like Shell, I can't keep up with everyone's tweets. And I never even knew there was such a thing as Twitpic. I'm living in the dark ages.

This post is a pic of a twit and your Twitter post was a twit of a pic.

Say that five times fast...

Great—now I have to think about Cliff, on his patio, churning butter. In a pilgrim costume.

Where can I find you on twitter????

Steven said...

Can we still call you "Tweeter?" I like it.

Petrea Burchard said...

Um...okay, you can call me Tweeter, but not on Twitter, where my handle is @PetreaBurchard and where it is indeed impossible to keep track of everyone, twit or not.

Cliff, lace up those boots, your ankles are showing.

Well, I just lost the comment I painstakingly wrote using my iPhone, and I can't use Twitter properly, so I guess I'm getting overtaken by technology at last. Does anyone teach Twitter?

Once when I was in charge of investigating discrimination complaints in a local faceless bureaucracy, I had an employee working for me who was handling a complaint that claimed, among other things, that the complainant had been called a twit by his supervisor. My employee didn't know what the word 'twit' meant, so she came to ask me. As it turns out, she was one, but of course I couldn't say so...lol

Tweeter's a great name! Did the kids say "Tweeter Tweeter pumpkin eater" to you at Halloween? I don't tweet much (mostly on vacation) but I'm very impressed that you figured out Twitpic. Can't wait to see more of your pictures on Twitter!

Fun post! I haven't signed on to Twitter yet. I'm too busy right now to have one more thing to check. But if I was on Twitter, I'd follow your tweets :-)

Everyone is so funny today! I love all your twit stories.

The kids didn't call me Tweeter, as I recall, Katie. It was more of a family nickname, my mother's pet name for me.
