High Strung

How does the saying go? "The best laid plans go to hell in a hand basket," or something like that. You think you know how things are going to go. They don't. C'est la vie, dammit.

A good way of looking at surprise chaos would be to greet it as though it were welcome serendipity. "Why hello, pain in the butt, you're as welcome as a million dollars!" I'm constantly working on my brain in that way, trying to twist the negative into a positive, trying to have a "good attitude." This is probably why I need a massage. I mean always, even right after I've had one.

Taking things in stride is easier some days than others. I don't know why this is, do you? There are times when a medical emergency wouldn't phase me. Sure. I'll just bring reading material. Then there are times when I can't even imagine seeing a good movie if the opportunity arises. I've got my mind set on my best laid plans. No matter if that hand basket is on its way to something heavenly, I can't twist my attitude that far to the plus side.

Petrea? What's going on? Your high tension wires and words are worrying.
Sei gesund, bubeleh.

Perfect pattern, Petrea.

"The best laid plans of mice and men, gang aft agley," as Burns put it. Watching Tom and Jerry I discover that the best laid plans of mice work a whole lot better then those of men.
Hey ho.

I wish I knew why the attitude adjustment is easier some days than others. Because c'est la vie, I guess. I'll second your dammit. I hope tomorrow welcomes your serendipity, dear Petrea.

Let me know if there's anything I can do. Really.

I'm sorry I got people worried. The photo inspired me because it's asymmetrical and sort of high-strung, if you know what I mean.
Best laid plans-wise, Boz had to go to the vet yesterday and I was up most of the night with him. He couldn't keep food down for a few days. Poor guy is on so many pills.
Best we can figure, he got hold of a bad "sidewalk num-num" (stealing from Margaret. We may have to muzzle him when we walk him, to save him from himself.
Thank you all for your good wishes! I'm doing fine. But I feel bad for poor Boz, who doesn't know why he has muscle spasms or why he feels so bad, and only wants it to go away.

I'm so sorry about your high-tension medical emergency over a pain in the butt. Want to come for a relaxing walk in the back country of the Angeles National Forest today? Much more scenic than a massage parlor, and we can take a picnic in a handbasket.

Bellis said...

Oh, I wrote that before you told us it was about poor Boz. A walk in the forest would cheer him up no end.

Petrea Burchard said...

I'll email you, Bellis. I think that would be just the ticket for Boz, if it's not a stressfull hike.

Get well soon, Boz!

If Tommy had a mystery illness and I was up all night caring for him, I'd have a hard time having a good attitude about it too, dammit.

I hope Boz gets better soon, poor guy.

Oh, the medical emergency is with Boz! Well I'm sorry he is feeling so bad but I'm much relieved that it's not about you or John.

Sei gesund shayneh Boz.

John Sandel said...

Hey, if it gets me any sympathy, I'll come up with a medical problem. Want me to tell you about my rash?

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks for your good wishes, guys. I'll tell Boz, now that he's finally awake. He slept 'til 1:30.

Google Translate has Yiddish-to-English. It translates "Sei gesund" as "Sei gesund." Now I know.

I do know what shayneh means, and you're right about that, Dina.

J, I'll stay up all night while you tell me about your rash, if it'll make you feel better.

Ooh—pillow-talk … I'm just itching' to gab.

glad that Bozz is home and as you know, I'm well aware of that certain "hell"

btw: does anyone know if Bernie K ever got his itch scratched?

John Sandel said...

Bernie Kofors? I used to post stuff for him here, when he was being all weird about having a computer. I got an email from the guy he sold his condo to … Bernie moved to Munich (as in Germany), so I don't know what's up with that. I called his mom, but her Humber was disconnected (she's pretty old). I mean, Munich? Bernie grew up in Van Nuys! Maybe he fell in love or got a job or something.

Not for nuthin' do they refer to the lines those towers support as "high tension." The towers themselves look as though they were hung by a design, meant to ensnare someone else's plan in their web.

Poor Boz. I both sympathize with you, and empathize with Boz. Isn't there a doggie Pepto?

Bad num-nums! Bad! Bad!

Oh I"m sending the biggest ole smoochie smooch to my dear sweet Boz!!!
Hugs a rama,

Petrea Burchard said...

Oh, "high tension"--that's the phrase I was looking for. Too late to change the title now.

Boz is much better today. Thank you all for your well-wishing, I think it helped.

Petrea Burchard said...

And now I see Dina said it on the very first comment.

I'm so relieved to hear Boz is feeling better, Petrea. Phew. Poor sweetheart.

Petrea Burchard said...

He ate his whole breakfast this morning. First time in five days. I think he's all right now.

I'm glad to hear Boz is doing better. I hope he's able to enjoy a walk soon.

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Ms. M. I took him to Hahamongna today, and although he didn't do much running we did enjoy a nice, long walk.

Dina said...

Yay, Boz is better/gesund.
I wonder if chicken soup cures dogs like it does people.

Petrea Burchard said...

The vet recommends chicken and rice when his tummy's upset. So I would say yes, sans spices.
