Swing Time

This swing makes me long for a mint julep and I don't even know what a mint julep tastes like.

It also makes me long for Keds without socks, a ponytail and a boyfriend with a crappy car, even though many times I've said "I never want to be that young and stupid again!"

Still. There's something sweet about that swing. I'd brave bubble gum, a blister on my heel and even the smell of baby oil for a little bit of time with it.

If you've already read about Just Pocket Camera, the website that steals blog posts, you can skip this part. Or not.

http://www.justpocketcamera.com/ has been stealing my posts and those of other bloggers, and while I wait for my cease and desist letter to have the effect I desire, I'm messing with their translation software. Let's see what it does with the following sentence:

Just Pocket Camera recommends that you visit the original post at http://pasadenadailyphoto.blogspot.com/, and tell Petrea what a nice person she is.

Petrea, what a nice person you are.
I, too, am a mint julep virgin. I can only assume it tastes … er … minty. Also, being from the wrong side of the pond I have no idea what Keds might be, though I did once have a ponytail and was a boyfriend with a crappy car.
The swing sure does look tempting.

... an iced tea, or a beer. Whatever floats your boat. I could swing there.

Keds are the kind of tennis shoes I wore when I was a kid. Dive, what a nice person you are.

Birdman, you're a nice person too. You may have a beer. In fact, beer for everyone.

A mint julip sounds better than it tastes. Or maybe that's because the only one I've ever had was at the racetrack on Kentucky Derby day.

I'm also a nice person.

You are, Karin. You are a very nice person.

Just a comment about Just Pocket Camera--everytime someone goes to that site, it gives it a boost. The more clicks, the more earning power it has.

Petrea Burchard said...

That's okay, Laura, as long as people don't click on the ads. We'll give 'em a little thrill before we shut 'em down.

Lovely picture. Bring back memories.

About pocket Camera. I dont know how they do it, looks like everytime you post something they are grabing the entire post without giving you any credit and no back link to your site. Its bad. Hope you will shout them down soon.

Sorry about coming back again. this just pocket is an Adsense publisher. I am also an adsense publisher and I know very well that copying content from someone els website is aganist Google AdSense TOS. This site only revenue is AdSense and if you report it to google that they are stealing your content, google will remove them from the AdSense program.

I found an article on how to do this reporting. http://www.kuanhoong.com/2007/11/21/how-to-report-duplicate-content-to-google/

Good luck and if you knew this already just disregard my comment.

It wouldn't be hard to sneak into that back yard, Daisy. I would never do it, though. My "chicken" nature makes me miss out on some thrills.

Sailor, you come back any time! Thanks so much for the tip. I'll try reporting to Adsense. Thanks.

Curly said...

Oh there's only the house now... it's empty and there's no tree and no swing anymore... otherwise I'd do it! There's not even a fence so it wouldn't be much of a thrilling expierence! I have a "chicken" nature myself! ;-)

I've gotta say, much as I regret giving that Just Pocket Camera site a click -- their translation of this specific post is one of the funniest things I've ever read. "I’d dauntless burble gum, the scald upon my heel...." Reminds me of Lewis Carroll.

Petrea Burchard said...

We chickens must stick together, Daisy. Safety in numbers.

Welcome, TinkersDam. One of my Facebook friends thought the same thing. I think we'll try sending that same phraseology back through their translator tomorrow and see what we get.

Glad you're doing something about the Just Pocket Camera site. Weird, it seems to glom onto specific blogs and keep autocopying. Is it just the Daily Blogger sites that it's going after for photo content?

I wore Keds all the time, too, when I wasn't going barefoot in the summer. Spring was always the time to toughen up your feet (can you believe we did that?) Love the swing, it's sweet; the real thing (like the old Coke in a bottle).

Fun and nostalgic post. I had a swing like that when I was 5 that my grandfather made and hung from a branch of a blue ash tree in the front yard. I still have a soft spot for swings.

Ms M said...

Oh -- and you ARE a nice person, Petrea :-)

Petrea Burchard said...

Patrizzi, my peeps es nice peeps.

Looks like just three photo blog sites, Laurie. I emailed them but haven't heard back. I wouldn't be surprised if they just don't want to deal with it. And I do remember toughening my feet each spring! Ha! great memory.

Ms. M, another nice person! Honestly, though, when I get righteously mad I am not nice. I'm dogged and tenacious and my teeth get sharp.

Susan Campisi said...

It's worth getting righteously mad over some things. It just proves you're a nice person.

I like how there seems to be movement in the leaves but the swing is perfectly still.

Petrea Burchard said...

I don't know, Susan. It seems my anger over the last few days -- over this theft, and over the larger political picture -- is out of proportion. I'm no longer allowed access to radio or television. I can't click on news links or even read headlines. Ignorance is the only livable state for me at this point.

I give you permission to just go over there and swing. Go!

I want to wiggle my toes in some mud while I wear pigtails and a gingham dress with eyelet lace, thanks to this photo.

But enough about my adult fantasies!

Petrea Burchard said...

Haha, Sidney, I just want to lie on the couch and read a book. You are way ahead of me.
