Zen Monday: #90

Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what I think the photo's about. There's no right or wrong. It means what you think it means, or what you want it to mean.

I look for a photo worth contemplating or, failing that, something odd or silly. Unless I absolutely must say something I stay out of the comments box to avoid influencing the intellectual path of the discussion (because when I get in there everything goes down hill).

As I post each new Zen Monday photo I add
a label to last week's to identify it if necessary.

Doesn’t look like a sunny day: No shadows, only a glass window mirror.

Initially, this depressed me. But who's to say she is an unhappy woman? She may have a perfectly lovely life and we just happened to catch her at the moment she was standing at a particularly ugly bus stop.

the Baja quake was so intense it transported this woman from east LA to somewhere in Tijuana, still waiting for an MTA bus to arrive!

or...maybe she WAS in Tijuana and plopped into East LA after the shaking stopped?

I like the fact that her image is reflected in the glass on her left(the Past), but she is awaiting a bus which will take her somewhere to her right(the Future).

She is still very much on life's journey.

This photo really hit me. I clicked on it several times and I could not make myself write a witty comment. Many, many years ago I was visiting my mother in a care facility. There were probably twenty other residents gathered in the main community area, most of them in wheelchairs, most staring off into a space that only they could see. My mother then said, "Do you see what's in your future in this room?" I have never forgotten that. One must try to live each day like it is your last. Your photo took me back to that day. Your lens speaks volumes. Thank you Petrea for posting this photo.

I like this photo. I think it comes closer to "a photo worth contemplating" than "something odd or silly." I'd love to find more of this kind of thing for Zen Monday.

From what I understand of Zen, it means you learn from experiencing, not from being lectured to or told about things. I think this lady would understand that.

She is clean, she wears sensible shoes. Her purse is strapped across the front of her to protect it from pickpockets and purse-snatchers. She's experienced.

It's not the worst corner in the world, not the best. And as Shanna said, the woman awaits the bus that will take her to her future.

Thank you for your comments today. I enjoyed them all.

All I could think all day long was, "Please tell me she's not waiting for the 452..."

«Louis» likes Shanna's interpretation.

Cliff, you've gone beyond me again, and I can't figure out what search string to use.

Louis, do you and I like Shanna's because it's got a happy ending? Or because we don't want Trish to think I snuck into East LA to take photos?

No searching required, it's all in your photo. The bus numbers are listed high above, but her spine is hunched, giving her eyes a downward cast. I feared she had not seen the sign and was waiting forever for the wrong bus.

Okey dokey. Duh.
