Tranquil Weekend

I was looking for something spooky to post for Friday the 13th and I stopped at this one. Not spooky. Tranquil, in fact.

I'm facing south under the 210 freeway overpass, toward the Rose Bowl. It's tranquil except for the noise of rushing traffic above.

The photo suits my mood. I have a lot to do today but once it's over, a tranquil weekend promises to follow.

Have you got something good coming up? It's the calm before the holiday storm, you know. The bleachers are already going up for the parade.

TRanquil is good. I need tranquil today. Thank you.

Funny, my son was just asking this morning if the bleachers were going up yet for the Parade, and I didn't know. Now I do.

I worried about you this morning when I didn't get my 7 am photo fix, but you've made up for it by the frisson of pleasure I had when I recognised one of my favorite trails. Full of birds and bunnies, it also has a clear stream of water halfway for the dog. Still haven't found out where that water comes from!

Yes, the bleachers bloom every November beginning at Orange Grove and Colorado. This, the shabbiest vehicle entrance to Pasadena, remainder of the year NOT a planted Rose in sight...

Welcome to the City of the Roses....

I never would have guessed where you were. Love the surprise.

I saw them up at Orange Grove and Colorado, Loren. Don't know if they're anywhere else.

Sorry, Bellis. I thought I had it all set but had put in the wrong time. Doesn't that water come via the dam? Must investigate.

Pascal Jim, I don't think it's such a shabby entrance. I like the flagpole, the museum, the big, white--what is it, the Elks club? It's a nice corner as freeway offramps go. Much better than the vacant lot that greets you when you exit at Fair Oaks.

Oh, good, Margaret!

It does feel tranquil! I love that this nature spot can co-exist with a noisy freeway.

I agree with the P: there are far more shabby entrances to Pasadena than Oragne Grove & Colorado!!

Bleachers already? Wow. So soon. Crazy I say.

Ahh tranquility. I think I get some of that next month. I can't wait. There will be so much sleeping. :)

Yeah, Shell, up top it's zoom-zoom-zoom, then you walk down and you can almost tell yourself it's rushing water. Almost.

What do you suppose is the shabbiest, Cafe?

Ah, December. AmyR will have rest then. Right now she's doing this. You go, girl! I mean it, get out of here, you've got writing to do.

I hope your busy day is finally over and the tranquility phase has set in. Interesting photo -- with different cropping you could have made us believe you were way out on a trail. I have a fun weekend planned, but there won't be much down time. Maybe I should build some of that in.

Tranquil is good -- that scene almost looks like it's not in a city.

Being on freeways, with my kids driving, is one of the reasons I don't make the trip to LA often enough. But being UNDER a freeway sounds even more terrifying.

In the Los Angeles Metropolitan area we have to take our tranquility where we can get it. A wonderful thing about how we're situated is our proximity to ocean, mountains and desert. A quick drive and we have real tranquility.

But when there's no time for that, Pasadena has pockets of wild places that can be found by just walking a few hundred yards.

Boz and I were walking in the Arroyo Seco two days ago at dusk. We stopped short when we heard a pack of coyotes set up a yowl across the wash from us. We listened for about two minutes. I would guess there were at least 6 or 8 of them, maybe more. We couldn't see them. We were only a few yards from the parking lot.

I love it here.
