In the Los Angeles Metropolitan area we have to take our tranquility where we can get it. A wonderful thing about how we're situated is our proximity to ocean, mountains and desert. A quick drive and we have real tranquility.

But when there's no time for that, Pasadena has pockets of wild places that can be found by just walking a few hundred yards.

Boz and I were walking in the Arroyo Seco two days ago at dusk. We stopped short when we heard a pack of coyotes set up a yowl across the wash from us. We listened for about two minutes. I would guess there were at least 6 or 8 of them, maybe more. We couldn't see them. We were only a few yards from the parking lot.

I hope your busy day is finally over and the tranquility phase has set in. Interesting photo -- with different cropping you could have made us believe you were way out on a trail. I have a fun weekend planned, but there won't be much down time. Maybe I should build some of that in.

Pascal Jim, I don't think it's such a shabby entrance. I like the flagpole, the museum, the big, white--what is it, the Elks club? It's a nice corner as freeway offramps go. Much better than the vacant lot that greets you when you exit at Fair Oaks.

I worried about you this morning when I didn't get my 7 am photo fix, but you've made up for it by the frisson of pleasure I had when I recognised one of my favorite trails. Full of birds and bunnies, it also has a clear stream of water halfway for the dog. Still haven't found out where that water comes from!
