Hey. It's the day. I wanted something truly weird.
Here's a good article about Halloween. Paragraph two tells you how to correctly pronounce "Samhain" and impress your friends.
You might enjoy this delightfully sinister animated short film called The Sandman, directed by Paul Berry. (You might not.)
Have fun out there tonight! Be safe! Be spooky! Eat candy!

Those colours are spooky and kooky, Petrea ~ what a great photo!! And thanks for the link ~ I learned a lot. Halloween is not huge here in the scheme of things, but seems to be growing in popularity. Enjoy pilfering from your own candy bowl. :)
Happy halloween Petrea, and have fun all of you Pasadena People!
Since we don't really celebrate Halloween in the Philippines, I can't do any of what you said, so I'm off to watch the video now!
I hope you enjoy your Halloween!
Shell, this is the wooden backside of a big pumpkin sign. The front is painted orange. A few of them stand at used pumpkin lots--I mean "pumpkin patches"--around town, where you can buy pumpkins for Halloween. Some "patches" have petting zoos or inflatable jumping castles for kids. Do you have those? Starting soon, probably tomorrow, they'll clean out the pumpkins and bring in the Christmas trees.
Thank you, Italo! The children have so much fun trick-or-treating that the adults enjoy it, too.
I will, Hilda, thank you. It's not an old tradition as those things go, but it's been around since I can remember, so that's long enough!
Why do I think you'll be in costume today?
Uh, becuz you think she's always in costume?
HoHoHo, I mean, Boooo!
I ate three mini 3 muskateers bars shortly after midnight last night. It has begun.
A friend of mine just sent me a Halloween email with a photo of some fluorescent orange Hostess Halloween Glo Balls "with S'Cream Filling". Talk about a Halloween scare! I hope you see lots of cute kids in your neighborhood tonight trick-or-treating.
The mark of a good photographer: always looking for the "unique" or "unanticipated" angle -- I love the backside of this jack! Nicely done.
Happy Halloween, everyone, and thanks, Petrea, for linking to the article telling me how to pronounce Samhain. Now I'll sound smart at the parties tonight.
love the image! I bet your neighborhood will be a delight this evening.
I've got sowinophobia, the result of years of English church schools putting the fear of the devil and the unrisen dead into us. Even now, I'm scared to walk past graveyards on Hallowe'en, so can you imagine what it's like to find gravestones on my neighbor's front lawns?
I prefer our Bonfire Night on November 5th, when we stuff old clothes with straw to make an effigy of Guy Fawkes and burn him on a bonfire to remind ourselves that "gunpowder treason will never be forgot." Government anti-Catholic propaganda that's lasted over 400 years.
Eat candy, more candy, and even more. Check. :)
The otherside of Halloween!
I'll eat the candy please :)
Love those colors.
Happy halloween girl!
LL
But don't eat that demonic infused candy the wackos are out there preaching about! Good grief.
I like this whole photo! The color the angle the whole bit. I'll toast it with a mini Milky Way! Ohh I see LA has beat me to it. :)

Hiker, as I do every year, I'm wearing my bat shirt.
(Not my "old bat" shirt, Cafe.)
I started early, too, Laurie. It's like drinking before noon.
Hi, DNACinema. Okay!
Katie, those glo-balls would seem fitting with the weird food conversation on Small Glass Planet.
Thanks, Loren. I'm going to try it on my friends, too.
It should be fun, Tash. We have a lot of kids around here and they have a blast.
That's terrible, Bellis! One of my favorite things about England was the churchyards.
Yes Amy, Yes Marley, more candy, please.
You too, LL.
Demonic candy, V? This one I haven't heard. Off to google.
Well, that IS a nice backside. {Wolf whistle...} I haven't seen any big pumpkin 'patches' around, with or without petting zoos and jumping castles. Not on our side of town, at least. Looks like we have a long way to go yet!
happy trickin anf treatin!
Great photo -- ti really captures the feel of a hot, dry So Cal October.
Why, thanks very much, Tom.
