Every Tuesday, Pasadena's Public Information Officer holds a Mystery History contest on her blog. So before you do anything else, go on over there and enter. Go on, there's a time factor. I'll wait.
Okay. So you see how it works. PIO Ann Erdman posts a historical Pasadena photo and you guess what the photo's about. If you're the first one to guess correctly you win a prize.
Three weeks ago, I won. When I went to City Hall to collect my attractive City Hall tote bag, Ann allowed me to take photos inside the city government offices. Oh yes she did. I sneaked around behind the reception desk. I saw the secret documents. I poked my camera into the deep, dark playrooms of Pasadena's power politics.
Not really. Actually, the lighting was decent.
I got some fun shots to post this week, so stick around.

"Say, Martha, those trees need trimming again."
Oh, dang. I just realised I lost a day. It's not Zen Monday. I'll go back and see what fun I missed.
Congrats, Petrea ~ you're being showered with prizes and awards from all directions at the moment. Good for you!
I saw you on blogs of note... well done...
Nicely done! The perimeter of shadow frames the image well on its own.
PS: Congrats on your winning!

Local history contest, good idea. Maybe after a few more years reading your blog I will know enough to compete. ;)
Congrats on your winning the coveted tote bag.
Looking forward to the inside scoop.
Hey, you inspire me to go take the Jerusalem City Hall free tour.
Nicely done!
Congratulations on your prizes and awards, Keep up the good work.
Yvonne.
Damn and blast. You did say you'd get up early enough to win contest this time.
Hahahaha, Shell. No, this is a peek from the second floor exterior hallway looking across the City Hall courtyard to one of four belvederes. And it's easy to win the contest. Pasadena's proud of its history so history is all over the place here. It's easy to know.
Thank you, Shaun, I appreciate you stopping by.
Thanks, Buenos Aires!
Dina, that free City Hall tour sounds fantastic. I'd go.
Hello and welcome, Social Bookmarks.
Hi again, Yvonne, thanks for stopping. I'll bet today's Mystery History could be won by a non-Pasadenish.
Yeah, Hiker, but look at it. Unless it's a red herring, this one's easy and I'd feel guilty. Go. Go add to your mug collection.
Awesome Petrea. Did you get to go up to the very top? I'm still waiting on a local blogger behind the scenes tour of City Hall...
I didn't get to go to the top. I hope Ann's saving that for the local Blogger tour, which she assures me is in the works. It sounds like it's going to be fantastic.
Easy? Did you say that today's Mystery History is easy? I think I'm a history dope because I am clueless.
Susan, at first glance it looked like a Rose Parade queen. But on second thought, it's surely not. I'm wrong! Not easy!
There's going to be a local blogger tour? Do painters qualify?
I'm really jealous/impressed that you got to roam inside with a camera. Wow!
Very cool! I can't wait to tour Pasadena!
Well done!
I don't know what the qualifications are, Jean. There may have to be some, as there are a lot of bloggers in Pasadena. Blogs about Pasadena? I don't know.
Malanie, I'll show you around from my point of view. Or you can click on Ben Wideman's link above, he's got a point of view, too, and another daily photo blog about Pasadena.
Merci, Angels March.
This is a very good composition...and the light, as you said, was right.
But, I sure wanted to know what was in those "secret" documents...;-)
I didn't really get to see any secret documents. Or if I did, I didn't know that was what they were...
It was a pleasure guiding you through the inner sanctum.
What fun, a bonus prize! Looking forward to more.
Your blog is a very nice vacation for me..
And how nice that you won! They say winning isn't everything, but it's close to it!!!
I would like to go to Pasadena!
ginab: Looks like you hit the jackpot today. And I forgot to congratulate you, Blogger of Note! As José says, velly velly velly gud!
PIO, I'm glad you get pleasure outta guiding people through your inner sanctum. Please remember to keep that thought.
Ann, thank you! I had such a good time.
Everyone, you can visit Pasadena's City Hall. You can't just walk into the offices, but you can enjoy much of this beautiful building any time.
Congrats on Blogger of Note!
Looking forward to the pics to come this week :>)
Maybe after a few more years reading your blog I will know enough to compete …
Dina's funny.
Very Nice!
Well done! Congrats for you.
J+P, I'll be lucky if I can keep Dina around a few years.
Thanks, all. I love going to City Hall and can't help but take pictures the entire time I'm there.
J+P, gee, thanks! We all need that laughter medicine, right?
Petrea siskeit, a few years? Ach, I should live so long.
Petrea, I've always loved Pasadena's City Hall and you've taken such a wonderful photo of it!
Thanks!
Thank you, Lori.
