Art Night Pasadena is held twice a year. It's always great and it's always free, and that includes transportation between the venues.
Last night, 14 venues participated. My friend Linda and I started at the Armory Center for the Arts, where this man couldn't seem to tear himself away from Ornithology 3 by David Dedlow. To the left is ReloJ, an etching by Edward Ruscha. Both works are part of the Armory Center's Off the Wall Biennial Art Auction.
It's damn near impossible to see everything, but Linda and I gave it our best shot. The night was brisk and beautiful and it was fun to be out. Instead of using the free transportation we used our personal, built-in free transportation between several of the venues.
Sore feet, ibuprofen and early to bed. But worth it. Art Night is one of those things that makes me a braggart about Pasadena.

That photo can be made N2 a work of art itself! Good one.
It's good to see you, P, getting free & about outta de old house.
Something to brag about indeed, both the art and your efforts to take it all in.
All the curves in your photo are great together!
What a fantastic art shot!
I quite like this shot. Very amusing.
Great photo; the lines are gorgeous.
You should be a braggart about Pasadena; it's a great town. I really want to move there
Petrea, this shot is an award winner! I just love it - esp. with the tilt in the sculpture and the observer.
PS - did they snatch your camera away? I never know if it's OK to photograph art exhibits in smaller galleries (the museums post signs where photography is prohibited).
We started at the "Funky Junkyard Exhibit"
Steered clear of those events we could see at other times. This was a happy event. Hated to leave.
Ms. P. you were correct, private vehicles... buses crowded..more time on bus than in viewing....Said Hello to PasadenaPIO in junkyard,
P.S. Your art shot is good art....
This guy looks a bit ornithological himself, with those long skinny legs!
Thank you all. I'm glad you like the photo. I do, too.
Hi AmyR, nice to see you here! I'm searching for a house for my non-Pasadenish friends who want to move here. It'll be an artsy-geeky girl dorm/mansion-type thing. I'll keep you posted.
Tash, I asked at this venue and had permission to shoot without a flash. At some venues, when I couldn't find those in charge, I took non-flash pictures without asking and was not stopped. I don't hide my camera.
SideStreet Projects. That's where we ended, Pascal Jim. And did I say "private vehicles?" We drove from downtown to SideStreet, but the rest of the time we walked. My feet are my "personal, built-in, free transportation." A little sore today.
I hadn't thought of it that way, Saretta. But he was stalking that artwork. I wonder if he'll bid on it at the auction.
Top of the class for that one, Petrea.
Sounds like you had a ball (and sore feet!)
I can't wait until our Art Night in June--when it is warm enough to be outside for that long without long underwear!
I love the observer's lean leaningness in this as well. I want to "fix" the spacing of the little brackets on that bow, but I'll bet I'm supposed to notice their unexpected rhythm. Such volumes of art in Pasadena! I'm looking forward to that mansion arrangement. Keep me advised.
That sounds great! I'd love to go to Art Night! We have "First Thursday" here each month, but it's mostly retail.
I like this photo; well done.
Cliff, glad you like it.
Miss H, sorry we missed you. My phone sounds like loud crickets when I receive a text message. I was a hit all night. The Pasadena Museum of California Art was fab! I loved the Mars stuff, the airline thingy and all the germs. By the way, there were nearly 70 bicyclists, all doing Art Night together in a big happy gang.
Christie, I'm glad to know you have Art Night. I wonder how many cities have them. There must be many. It's a chance for the venues to show off and for people to get a free glimpse.
All right, USElaine! I've got three takers if Vanda's still in. Now for a mansion I can afford and I'm all set.
Ms. M, it's definitely about art. Though some of the exhibits were sponsored by retail establishments, I believe.
Excellent shot, Petrea!
Glad you got to go! Sad we were out of town.
Thanks, JT!
Sorry you missed it Ben. I hope you were having fun!
This is one of your best in my humble opinion. LOVE his stance and the black against the white. Perfecto! I wish I could have joined you. There would have been considerable whining about my feet but that's my usual.

Okay, Virginia, then how do you do Paris? It's a major concern.
Being the guy in the photo who "looks a bit ornithological, with those long skinny legs" I was surprised to see the photo.
My wife and I came to art night and to see our friend, Steven Corvelo and his displayed piece, as well as Sophia Bicos and the famous three year old, Cab.
However, I am delighted to have been a part of the creation of a piece of art while observing a piece of art. Very nice shot.
Hello Mr. Olsen! Thank you for being a good sport. Though the artwork is wonderful on its own, you made the photo. The way you were looking at the piece, I thought surely you'd be the first bidder.
If you'd like a copy of the photo, please email me.
Consider entering this photo in the next Art Night show and then while it is displayed on the wall I will stand in front of it in the same outfit leaning the same way looking at the photo.
Kind of a Photo Art/Live Art combined performance piece.
And I'll stand there photographing you, Kelly. Just to make it really weird.
I mean that in a good way.
