Zen Monday: #36

Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what the photo's about.
There's no right or wrong.
If the photo evokes something in you, that's all it is.

As each new Zen Monday is posted, a label is added to last week's to identify it (if I know what it is).

You must still be in Alta Dena, or somewhere Pasadena Adjacent.

Why did the chickens cross the street?

They were looking for Altadena Daily Photo.

Oh, the Chicken House! I discovered it when I was taking a walk with The Late Dog Ben and heard the distinctive sound of chickens and roosters. I thought I was hallucinating.

Well hush my mouth! Chickens. And what's that contrapration in the yard. Maybe the chickens crossed the road to have a better look.

sunny side up please...

Am I looking at this photo cockeyed, or is that a rooster in the road?

Henny Penny appears to have been right. With all this rain, the sky IS falling.

"And what's that contrapration in the yard."

That, my friends, is a henweigh.

(… waiting …)

chicken in the driveway?

"He'll get out of the way. If he don't, we'll make dumplings."

Ok, I don't have any funny caption, but it reminds me of the time when I was taking a walk in my neighborhood and saw a rabbit in someone's front yard. Then the woman came out of the house and told me it was not her rabbit, but the neighbor's, and it was not the first time it got lose either.

Why did the chicken cross the road? It was chasing a shutterbug.

This is not an uncommon sight in the part of LA where I teach.

I'm telling you, it's a henweigh! We used to build them when I was a kid.

Can somebody help me out, here?

I'd like to order one of these right away.

postie said...

Sorry boss I couldnt deliver the mail there were some very vicious chickens in front of the house.

Jezzus—thank you! I was starting to feel a little like Dylan Thomas did, after he'd ridden a puddle-jumper around the British Isles, and when he got out a reporter asked him how he felt and Thomas said "I'm exhausted from holding that plane up the whole time!"

I mean … you know.

Ms M said...

Looks like the chickens have come home to roost...
And brought some sort of medieval instrument of torture with them.

J+P said...

Actually, when you look at the un-IDed structure, it sorta resembles a trebuchet

D'you suppose Chanticleer, there, could be laying siege to a henhouse? Maybe Col. Sanders's descendants are holed up inside, preparing vats of boiling lard …

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAA!

Reading all these comments one after the other is like hearing some kind of frenzied comedy routine. Who needs beer when you've got a blog?

Ted, you're starting know your way around here like the locals.

Tim, we were both hallucinating. This can't be real. Apparently it's legal, though. The cops drove by while I was there and paid it no nevermind.

Virginia, Ms. M., Karin, J+P: I didn't notice the contraption/chick magnet/henweigh/trebuchet until I was prepping the photo to post. All I thought of until then was the chickens. I'll have to go back and see if I can get a shot that tells us what it is.

Postie, you guys have vicious dogs and attack cats to fear. Now it's chickens. Who'da thunk it?

Vanda said...

I had no idea that trebuchet was anything other than a font.

Those poultry look like the vicious Altadena chicken gang.

J+P said...

Ah, I muffed the joke. Shoulda said "vats of boiling Crisco" …

vats o'boiling Cris-co
vats o'boiling Cris-co
vats o'boiling Cris-co
all day long …

I believe it is early morning and the rooster is going from door to door, waking folks up to start their day. :-) Reminds me of being raised on the farm, where that was a familiar sound.

Petrea said...

Hi Tootie. If that's what this rooster is doing, I'm glad I don't live on that block!
