Arroyo Skate-o

Lower Arroyo Park was a beautiful place to be as the sun was sinking yesterday. We headed further south than we usually do, beyond the San Rafael Avenue bridge, past the stables and into the northwestern reaches of South Pasadena.

We were soon stymied by a bridge (San Pascual Avenue, maybe?). We could have continued, but we needed to cross the Arroyo and it's all cement there, so we turned back. There are places where people with decent shoes can climb it, but probably not dogs with stitches (see yesterday's post).

A long-term effort is underway to get rid of all that cement and restore the Arroyo Seco to its natural state. Some of that has already been achieved, but there's still a long way to go. In the meantime, some folks manage to make do.

This guy looks pretty happy having all this cement - Hi smiling man on the skateboard! Yes it would be nice to get rid of all that cement though. Glad that Boz was able to go out walking with you after his ordeal yesterday!

Could you send me your e-mail address so I can invite you to the next picnic?

Of course, there is always a chance that there could be a new skateboard park available! :)

Glad y'all could get out for a walk and the doggie too!

He was going fast and having a blast, Katie. I was amazed at how far he turned around on the board and was so balanced.

It's done, AP. Can't wait.

Christie, that's excellent positive thinking!

I like the composition on this one, with all those horizontal bands and lines. Glad to hear the move is on to de-channelize the thing. Even seco arroyos don't stay seco all the time, or they wouldn't be arroyos. Give it some breathing room, some floodplain parkways, native riparian green stuff - good, good, good. Birds will come back, frogs, squirrels, people on horses, clean air, wholesome communities, the races will embrace, acorns will sprout, songs will be sung. All starting right here.

Bless you Petrea. wipes a tear

uselaine, you're prescient! That's exactly what's happened in the restored part!

Rose, I'm honored by your comment. I'll carry it with me throughout my day.

Bernie K, the same. Thank you.

I find it kind of funny how that guy on the skateboard sticks out from the scenery.

Petrea, I've been walking along the Arroyo every Saturday morning now for the last few weeks as my daughter is practicing with her Cross Country team. What a beautiful area it is! And, how much more beautiful it can be in all its natural grace.

Irina, it is indeed a place I continue to discover. There's more to know about it every time I go. I'm glad you're getting to enjoy it.
