Use Me

Camelot & Vine has hit the big time! I'm dealing with some of the same issues that the big New York publishers deal with!

23 cents may seem cheap. But wait. Here's Diana Gabaldon's huge hit, Outlander:

I doubt she minds. Her book has been made into a big cable TV hit, with gorgeous stars and gorgeous countryside and gorgeous costumes and gorgeous gorgeousness.

I don't mind, either. After all, if they're selling it used, then it had to get used in the first place. And look at this, at the end of the Camelot & Vine used sales list.

What? I mean, what? Do people pay that kind of money for a used paperback? Not unless it's a first edition, signed by Dylan Thomas. People don't even pay this kind of money for a new hardback. So I wonder what the motivation is behind this pricing. It's certainly not sales.

  1. I don't think there was ever a book by a writer dead or alive we couldn't buy for under a buck on Amazon -- plus shipping and handling. A price totally unrelated to value.

  2. Thank you, William!

Hiker, I don't know how to price my ebooks anymore. Some sources say it's got to be a little higher to retain value. Some say give it away cheap. I have no idea which works.

  3. Congrats, your books are not thrown away or put into a Little Library, they're also traded. It's always puzzled me why some sellers quote such high prices - can people really be that gullible? Funny that you mention Outlander. I'm hooked on the audio books. Just finished 70 hours of listening to the first two books and now embarking on 40 hours more. I'm beginning to talk with a cute Scottish accent like wee Jamie. The reader, Davina Porter, deserves a medal for her endurance and excellent reading. When is your audio book coming out?

  4. Reading this again it seems I'm putting Little Libraries down. They're terrific! There's one two doors down from me and I use it a lot.

  5. I saw the first 8 TV episodes of "Outlander," Bellis, and I want to see the rest. On the show, Jamie is not exactly "wee." But he does have a nice accent.

I donated copies of "Camelot & Vine" to Little Free Libraries as part of my marketing/publicity. When I found a signed copy in one it almost hurt my feelings. But you have to decide that it's a good thing, and someone else will have a chance to read it.

Audiobook: I don't want to say too much because I've learned not to announce anything until I'm sure. But definite progress is being made. Thank you for asking.

  6. I find it strange that someone would price a book at a penny. Seems like so much effort to list it, wrap it and send it on it's way.

  7. All I can think of is that shipping doesn't cost them much.
