I didn't realize Northern Pasadena had so many parrots!!! I know SoPas has been dealing with them for a long time...They are beautiful...and fun...and ANNOYING!!!
They're noisy and we always know they're there, but getting photos like this is rare because they're usually so well camouflaged in the tree. Did the tree have some tasty new shooots, I wonder? When I walk in Hahamongna at sunset, they come flying in from the west and head toward Altadena, chattering away, anxious to get home before their mothers get mad with them for being out late. I read recently that a pet parrot that could speak Spanish had escaped in Pasadena. If he joins the flock, they'll be bilingual.
I don't know if this gives much of a flavor of the documentary. I remember sweeping views of Telegraph Hill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OMiVruHMPA
Great series of photos! I remember seeing the parrots on Telegraph Hill in SF when I first moved to the area in the late 90s, but I haven't seen them lately. I guess they'd rather be in Pasadena!
I think they sense something... Are u any where near the fires?

ReplyDeleteI love the light, Petrea! And how nice to see a post from you today :).
ReplyDeleteNice capture and lucky you to have local parrots, busy bright and brash (no idea what the rest are called!)
ReplyDeleteThe Pomona fire is visible from the freeway bridges here, KBF. But I took these pictures ages ago.
ReplyDeleteChieftess, they're birds! They have no boundaries! I love them, despite the racket.
Lauren, the birds woke me and I remembered I had these pictures, so I thought I'd share.

ReplyDeleteReminds me of "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill," a documentary with a very happy ending.
ReplyDelete"Busy, bright and brash," I like that, Deb.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to have bilingual parrots, Bellis. Once they've all learned Spanish we can teach them English and they'll be trilingual.
I saw that, K! Ages, ages ago.
Made me think of Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill too! I loved that documentary. What a sweet surprise to see this post, I love the light.
ReplyDeleteGlorious photos!

Wonderful captures, Petrea!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine their cheerful vocalization. Love the tree too.

ReplyDeleteI love the parrots.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sonia!
ReplyDeleteThose Telegraph Hill parrots were a tourist attraction. I wonder where they're off to?
Me too, Margaret.
Remember the crows flying over the Illinois farmland? That's what this looks like.
ReplyDeleteYeah. And then you hear me sigh.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series, Petrea! We have them here too (don't ask me where they came from), but have never seen so many together.
ReplyDeleteAre they always around?
ReplyDeleteI drove through Pasadena today and waved. Did you see me? ;-)
JM, maybe yours came from different sources like ours did--pets, pet stores, tropical gardens, etc. Now they're a wild flock.
ReplyDeleteBD, I think they're always around but they're especially loud in winter.
I was at the Norton Simon Museum! I saw you! I waved back!
They come, they go, they'll be back. That about sums it up.
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteFor me, screeching parrots remind me of Australia. Your post gives me a dreadful sense of longing...
ReplyDeleteI just like this:)
ReplyDeleteBellissime immagini...raccontate ed in movimento
