BettyS sent this photo, saying she was sure I'd run across this in the neighborhood. I haven't found it, though, so please thank Betty for today's Zen Monday photo.
From the small thumbnail that showed up on Face Book, I thought it was a grenade. Now if this photo was taken in Afghanistan, I'd think it was a cleverly disguised grenade
Cool comments and links. I'll have to see if I can find that temple, Susan. I've heard of it but Google Street View shows that it blends into the neighborhood pretty well.
I've seen that Buddha's head in the tree in Thailand. Getting a photo of it is very difficult as Thai Buddhist etiquette says that your head always has to be lower than the Buddha's. I had to lie on the ground to take the photo. I hope "your" Buddha in the tree is higher than the people walking by! I'd love to know where Betty found it.
Let us know, Betty. I still haven't found it. (Neither has Boz, Susan.)
Apparently there are several Buddhist temples in La Puente, Chieftess! http://bit.ly/Zwss8T There are at least two in Pasadena, but none I know of where Betty and I walk our dogs.
Well, darn it anyhow!!! If I could access my catalog in Lightroom I'd find the temple in La Puente and tell you the name!!! And location!!! It's one of the bigger ones and is a fabulous spot to photograph...I remember it's in the foothills, but I don't remember the street...or the name of the temple...I'll see if I can find it...
Take Hacienda offramp from the 60 then go south. It's on your left side - can't miss it. Or you can go down Figuroa. We have one in Highland Park. Can't miss it either.
Bellis, I'm afraid I broke the etiquette rule on that one! Margaret - Peekabuddha - LOL. OK - it's in the front yard at the southeast corner house, Claremont and Palm Terrace. A nice new owner there. Maybe she put it there in hopes of mellowing things out across the street!

Maybe it's near the Buddhist temple at:
1993 Glenrose Ave
Thank you, Betty. It's a great find. So are those photos from Thailand, KBF. Very cool.
I'm going to have to meditate on this one.
Hee hee, Desiree.

Thanks for using my Zen experience for Zen Monday, Petrea! Think I'll take the dogs out and see if it's still there!

I should be working but haikus are more fun:
Buddha head in tree
Pasadena, Zen Monday
Where? Boz's nose knows
I think you all are referring to the temple in LaPuente...it's a beautiful little oasis in the middle of suburbia....

Chieftess, I feel bad about your catalog. I hope it works out.
Thanks, PA, that's probably the one.
Peekabuddha

And I think (not sure) it's an Incense Cedar tree. Even more Zen Monday.
I'm going to piggy-back on Margaret's.
wandered through Yelp, found the naem/address for La Puente:
Wat Padhammachart
14036 Don Julian Rd
La Puente, CA 91746
and Hacienda Hts:
Hsi Lai Temple
3456 Glenmark Dr
Hacienda Heights, CA 91745
That explains it. We've been taking shorter walks because Boz is getting so old, and we haven't passed that corner in a while.
A buddha in a tree is worth 2 in a bush. Or as Margaret said: "Peekabuddah!"
My bad...the temple I was referring to was the Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights...
Peekabuddha...priceless...
*LOL!!!*
