In the darkness, climb the wooden contraption that's as much stairway as ladder.
Here's one box full of important things. Here's another, filled with junk. Here's an empty one. Move them all aside.
Step over the holiday decorations.
Turn sideways to inch between Mother's old files and the shelf where the tax records wait out the five years before their shredded death.
The lair is there, corpses suspended almost in air, almost.
Someone needs to do some spring cleaning.
The spider web and bug fit right in to the atmosphere of this post.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
Someone has been busy writing and publishing a most excellent book. I'm glad you put off the spring cleaning.
ReplyDeleteFailure to care for properly gave you a good photo.
ReplyDelete5 years? my accountant and financial guy told me it was 7 years..... tho i think nowadays w/statements online it wouldn't be necessary.. tho, i've kept all of my tax returns...
ReplyDeleteWhen did you come over?
ReplyDeleteSounds like the start of a new Alien movie!!! There's an outside cupboard under the back stairs festooned with cobwebs that I'm scared to go into. I'm very conflicted about clearing away spider webs when they're doing such useful work, but I wish they'd reingest the ones they've finished with.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI guess we all do a little at a time. The garage gets cleaned once a year. That's going to have to be enough until I have a staff.
ReplyDelete5 years, 7 years, I hear conflicting stories so I looked at the IRS page. Of course I can't remember how I found it.
I'm impressed that you actually clean the garage!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't clean my garage yet as it's got nesting thrushes in it. They come back every year and fill the place with bird crap but they're so cute and they sing beautifully and they give me an excuse not to spring clean the garage.
ReplyDeleteChieftess, at least we did last year.
ReplyDeleteDive, my garage has got lizards in it. They don't sing very well but they're awfully cute.
We just have spiders in our garage. They are fascinating, but NOT cute. And fortunately they don't sing.
