Zen Monday: #189
Here on Pasadena Daily Photo, Monday is the day you tell me about the photo rather than me telling you. Because sometimes I'm baffled by what my camera sees.
I saw what was making these the other day. The local horsemen - caballeros - ride down from Altadena to this spot, and then run their horses in a circle for a while. I don't know what the purpose is - maybe some equestrians can tell us. And maybe there's a better term than "run". Canter?
Petrea, thanks for your comment in PDP because it happened that Eric completed it and gave me the answered that I was looking for. About your photo, I think the same than Bellis, an UFO landed on this site making an o-ring around the plant ;)
Well, I thought there was some mystery. I thought of strange, drunken oddballs trotting in circles in the Hahamongna night. But thanks to James (jmgrimes) we have logic and reality.
James, my bet is they were teaching their horses leads. Hiker may be able to tell us if people still do that. If I remember correctly, the lead refers to which foot the horse leads with in a canter, and if you show in Western riding, one thing you'll be judged on is how well your horse switches leads upon command.
Either that or a JPL engineer is out looking for a job.
A fairie ring in the sand? It's such a perfect circle. Makes me wonder what's going on underneath.

Perhaps the engineer minored in botany in college and is simply going back to his or her roots?
