Last night, the neighborhood carolers serenaded the block with songs of the season. It's a sweet tradition. Every year I like to receive the carolers and offer them something. This year it was hot chocolate—and it was cold enough out to justify it.
The kids sat on our curb to drink their chocolate. The parents visited.
Not world class photography, but I love this photo.

I love the photo too. A picture of community and caring.
You have captured the mood and atmosphere perfectly!
Such a good mood in the shot!
Mood, atmosphere, community, caring...all good words for a good neighborhood where I am so fortunate to live.
Hot chocolate needs no justification, whatever the season. What did they sing?
They sang "Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer," and closed with "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." They added some fun phrases to punch it up. I sang along where I could.
The hot chocolate was too sweet. I think the kids liked it, but it's a good thing the parents had wine.
Lovely - it fits the season!
Your block has spunk! We 'people' (above the graffiti line) are nothing short of holiday duds! My tree is still sitting in it's box.
Thank you, Ms M!
PA, at least you've gotten your tree.
Are those the younger children sitting on the sidewalk? Your photo makes me very nostalgic. Carol singers always came round our houses in England when my children were young, and we'd give them a glass of sherry and a mince pie, but my grand-children in multicultural London have never seen them.
Yes, Bellis, the younger ones are sitting. I think the youngest is about 3. My block is relatively multi-cultural, and all the families are invited to participate. Most of them do.
How wonderful is that. I would love to just step into your photograph. Lovely.
PS. Amazon in England is selling paperback version of your book Act As If. I bought one to give to my Granddaughter :). I am enjoying my Kindle version.
You are welcome to step into my photo!
I hope your granddaughter likes the book!
What a sweet tradition. What a sweet neighborhood.
Thanks, Margaret. We feel lucky to have landed here.
Cocoa can never be too sweet.
I like so much the feel of community and warmth in this story and photo.
Thank you.
Actually, I believe this is world class photography.
Well, hello there, Candy. I already like you very much.
