Namesake

This morning my neighbor did me the great honor of naming one of her butterflies after me. J owns a small butterfly pavilion, and is doing her part to regularly bring new butterflies into the world.

This is not Petrea, however. Petrea is shy and retiring, doesn't like to have her picture taken. This is Tickle, who enjoys a lift on your palm so much that it's hard to get her to dismount. I also got to meet Katy Perry, who is as pretty and showy as you'd expect.

I never thought I'd witness a miracle this morning, but I got to watch Stretchy Junior Junior emerge from his chrysalis. J has probably released all these lovelies by now, and I expect to see Stretchy JJ, Katy P, Tickle, and even Petrea flitting about the neighborhood at any moment. It doesn't matter to them if I remember their names, but at least one of them will stay with me for a long time.

Such lovely details on those wings!

What an honor! Now you'll have to get a flowering plant for your garden that she'll come to feed on.

These are pretty butterflies, William.

Bellis, I want to plant lavender and anything else I can think of to keep them happy.

Nice shot. Lots of detail when viewed full size. So... should we now refer to you as Madama Butterfly? :)

Ha! I hadn't thought of that, Andy, but I'll answer to it!

What lovely little creatures -- your neighbor and her butterflies. Would there ever be butterflies to dine from your clementine tree?

I have such great neighbors, Karin. Thanks for the link, that's perfect.

Speedway, the tree attracts bees, which are just as good. This may be a fallow year, though. No blossoms yet.

I've never seen a butterfly be born. That would be exciting.

It was thrilling, PA. I hadn't seen it before, either. Stretchy Junior Junior came out of his chrysalis slowly. But like watching the moon rise over a building, you could see it happen. Stretchy JJ knew exactly what to do. Butterflies are patient about this process.

A beautiful photo and post, "Madame Butterfly" ;)

Thanks, LOL and Ms M. Sad to say, the neighbors haven't taken on this title for me.

Tickle is very beautiful.
The ideas in this post take some getting used to. Butterflies with names! Watching the end of a metamorphosis!

The kids find it exciting, Dina. And soon after the butterflies are ready, they are freed into the neighborhood with all best wishes for their continued success.
