Wilma: Home at Last

I'm not goin' nowhere, she sez. Sez she's stayin' right here. Don't even ast me to budge. Don't even.

Please?

(After two shelters and two other homes, this sweet, receptive, trained and trainable Boxer mutt deserves to stay. She settled in quickly and is willing to keep us. We're introducing her to our lives little by little, and she takes everything in stride. We're saving the trauma of bathing for tomorrow, but that's the limit. Think she'll like it? I don't either. She's spent a long time getting her girly-dog stink on, and she won't like losing it. But honey girl, it's got to go.)

Definitely a keeper!!! Kelly would like to meet her some time soon!!! She really likes meeting new friends...

We're glad, too, Diana.

PA, she has a white "L" on her neck, which I'll show you one of these days.

Chieftess, we're going to start her with Sprocket, who is getting older now. Then one dog at a time. How is Kelly with other females?

She's already perfected the art of posing for photos. What a trauma she's been through, going to two shelters and two homes after losing her first home. Look at those eyes - they're saying, "I'm trying to be very, very good so you keep me." How much does she weigh?

Good luck with the bathing! I can sell you some home-made Eau de Horsepoop shampoo - it'll make her feel much better.

Hi, Wilma! I'm sure you'll be very happy in your new home.

So glad she's willing to keep you two!

Ooooh, what a cutie! Bathtime should be fun.

She is trying to be good. She responds very well to praise. She's already had good training, which she probably got at Boxer Rescue. That was our experience with Boz.

We still have some of Boz's sensitive skin shampoo. I wish we'd kept his bowls. I haven't found raised bowls in the local stores for less than $50, and the ones I found were less than acceptable. I've looked for them in 5 different stores.

Gee, why do people shop online?

Welcome, Wilma. You will be much wov...loved. I think it's grand that you have found each other. I'm sure happy to read your post.

We waited nearly a month before we bathed Lali, but she somehow tends to small sweet. Panfi on the other hand could be bated weekly.

Bathed, not bated.

Ah she looks like a bright girl, got the hang of blogging real quick too. She is a keeper for sure. We need pictures of bath time......

She is just sweet as cherry pie.

CONGRATS!... call me crazy, but isn't her coloring similar to Boz? she's got such a sweet look!

Petrea Burchard said...

Or baited, Roberta. She's not a squirrel fan.

Deb, this might become Wilma Daily Photo if I don't watch out.

She is that, Hiker.

KBF, their coloring is sort of similar but not too. She's a nice, golden brown brindle with white marks. He had a deep, mahogany brown coat and he didn't get any white 'til he got old.

and a Wilma Daily Photo would be welcome :-)

Pretty girl.

Maybe it's my imagination but there always seems to be an extra helping of soulfulness to an animal from a shelter.

Petrea Burchard said...

They learn that while they're in stir. It's part of the training.

Wow, is she a cutie!

That is one adorable dog! Great to hear that your search is over, and Wilma has become part of the family. Sounds like you might have your work cut out for you training her to accept bath time with grace though. Have lots of towels handy. More photos please!

Welcome to Wilma! And so glad you found each other!
The first photo cracks me up; she's saying "A bath? I'm not impressed."
The second photo shows her "soulful heart"...

Oh Petrea, I'm so happy for her and for you. She's beautiful. xx

Petrea Burchard said...

Thank you all for your comments. She's a beauty, but we brought her home because she relaxed with us so quickly when we were at the shelter, and believe me, an animal shelter is not a relaxing place for animals.

What a sweet and personality-filled face she's got, Petrea! So happy for all of you!

Came back to look at Wilma some more. She's got soulful eyes. The first photo is my favorite. All pensive looking. So much fun to have a new kid in the house.

Btw; those are nice hardwood floors. How do you keep them that way with dogs? Don't they put in a ton of scratches?

Petrea Burchard said...

We're all happy, Lor. I can tell Wilma is pleased.

PA, Wilma is in focus and the floors are not. She's more active than Boz was and already did damage to the wood yesterday when she saw a squirrel outside the window. We weigh that against the advantages of her company, and her company wins.

Pasadena Adjacent said...

do they sell rubber nail tips? in colors?

Petrea Burchard said...

I'm sure we can buy anything, as long as we'll pay for it. Except the dog dishes we wanted.

Well now! There's something wonderful about a crooked smile. I'm glad you've found each other!

Petrea Burchard said...

It's been almost a week now and all is going well. She needs training in a few areas, which we never needed to do for Boz (he came ready-made perfect). But we're learning together.

Unknown said...

Looks like a sweetie.

Petrea Burchard said...

She is. We got lucky again.

BettyS said...

Lovely, lovely. Can't wait to meet her. How do you think she'll do with my two old fellas? Mine are getting less interested in other dogs with each year that passes, so they rarely provoke anything. They've perfected ignoring.

Petrea Burchard said...

I don't know, Betty. She's wonderful with people. She learned very quickly how to behave on the leash, and now she's learning not to react to other animals. Ignorage from your boys might be just the thing she needs, but we'll take it slow.

I'm so darned happy for you and John, Petrea, I could cry. Wait ~ I just did. Wilma is delicious. As for the scratches, I have a timber dining table with scars from Basie {my black cat pre-Ella} and I love every one of them. And the timber floors here have scratches from mum's dog when they lived here together ~ I love them, too. I hope you've found some bowls by now!

Petrea Burchard said...

Bellis brought us bowls! They're wonderful and Wilma loves them twice a day.

Gunn said...

I wish I could give her a hug!:)

Petrea Burchard said...

Gunn, I think she would like that.

Wow, write about dogs and double your visitor count!

I'm not ready for another dog (12 years without), but your recent ruminations here are very close to what I'd be going through if I were in the market. I'd need lazy and lovey. I admire the athleticism I see in so many dogs, but my yellow lab would have probably killed herself chasing balls if some human threw enough of them. Twice we went to the emergency vet because she lacerated her ear on the same downspout while hyper-focused on a tennis ball in the high grass. You've just exhausted me by making me relive all that.

Banjo52 said...

And I forgot to say what a great pooch face that is. Hard to believe she needed three adoptions.

Petrea Burchard said...

I knew she wouldn't be Boz, but I didn't know who she would be. Wilma's much more energetic, needs more attention and exercise. She's also a hunter, which is not good when we're walking in the neighborhood where squirrels outnumber the dogs (and there are about 25 dogs on my block). Thank goodness most of those dogs are behind fences, because Wilma is afraid of them.

I'm afraid of she'll knock down our fence going after a squirrel. Suffice it to say, we are all in training.

I am a dog person. I need to have a dog with me. But I'm like Karin. She has her Bru and her Phoebe. I have my Boz.
