Best of 2013

It's customary for daily photo bloggers around the world to do a "best of" retrospective on January 1st. I'm not a daily photo blogger anymore but I have some 2013 favorites I'd like to share. Being the unpredictable nonconformist you know me to be, I'm sharing them a day late.

Also a reminder: PasadenaDailyPhoto.com will no longer lead you here after January 7th. You can still arrive via LivingVicuriously.net or PasadenaDailyPhoto.blogspot.com. Please change your bookmark because I would hate to lose you!

And remember, January 6th (Monday) is the deadline for public comment on the County Department of Public Works' plan to demolish Hahamongna. Susan Campisi has set up a Facebook page with helpful letters and links.

And now, my faves:

Do they really have these in Venice?

I don't know why, but I love this.

Here's a series I took in Hollywood. Lucky.

At home, on the back porch:

And finally, walking in the neighborhood at night.

Light, its behavior and the lack of it. That makes me want to take a picture.

Love these and I these are my favorites of yours!. Went to the FB page and omg, did not realize Antonovich is the one that is involved in this... he's a tough one to reason with for sure.

I'm not sure how County government works, but I believe Mr. Antonovich is not directly involved in the DPW's destructive plan. However, he has the power to make them stand down. We're asking people to send comment to the DPW as well as write to Antonovich and ask for intervention.

Great photos, there! I love the interplay of light, lines and darkness present in many of them.

In the series with the boy running everything looks so solid surrounding his travel he really brings out that permanence and likewise his own fleeting existence (in the photo - not his lifetime, poor kid, lol).

Simply wonderful images, Petrea. You should release a calendar.

I agree with Dive! They are stunning shots, Petrea.

Wow, Eric, as a new year arrives I'm overly conscious of "fleeting existence"!

Dive, I released a calendar once. One person bought it.

Thanks, Lauren!

I fully agree with you Petrea, light and composition are what make me want to take a picture.

My absolute favorite is the one taken on your back porch and in your Hollywood series the best in my opinion is number four, because of the little boy's position right between 2 windows and not in front of one. You need him there because he brings action to the shot but just like in a painting he needs to be placed just so for the whole composition to work. When he's in front of a window, his silhouette doesn't appear so neatly cut out.

I wish you the very best for 2014. After a hiatus of several months I'm back to blogging but I only post on alternate days. I'm enjoying revisiting some of the best blogs around and yours is one of them.

Wonderful choice, Petrea! The running kid series is really cool. My favourite is your back porch. Fantastic!

I agree, Nathalie, though I had little choice. It was snap snap snap snap snap and I got what I got!

Thanks, JM. I like that back porch shot, too.

Happy New Year Petrea. Great choices above. My all time favourite of yours is 'Sunday morning cup and pup' from 2012, such a good photo.

Deb, thank you for remembering. I love that one, too. It's here: http://bit.ly/1crVmxk

It's been 3 1/2 months since Boz died and I still miss him so much. I took lots of pictures of him this year but didn't add them to this post. Folks can use the search field (lower right) and search for Boz, to see more pics of him.
