Bookmarks: Seeing Sierra Madre With Adele

Yesterday, Adele and I met for a cup of coffee at Bean Town in Sierra Madre. Then we took our cameras for a stroll. It's always a pleasure to see Sierra Madre with Adele, because she sees it not only with her camera but with loving eyes and a knowledge of her town's history and architecture.

Plus, Sierra Madre has a Little Free Library. This one's at 288 E. Laurel Avenue, a beautiful street for a stroll.

So I stuck in a copy of Camelot & Vine, and Adele and I took pictures as though it were Halloween, Disneyland, and Christmas morning all in one.

I've mentioned before that the idea of the Little Free Library is to take a book and leave a book. But Adele says the people who own this LFL say it's okay if you don't have a book to leave. Go ahead and take one. The important thing is that you read.

This weekend, the Neighborhood Church (that's the one next to the Gamble House) is having what's billed as its last Book Faire. It's 10am to 3pm, and admission is free. I don't know why it's the last one, but I'll bet you could find some bargains.

Adele's site is great. I walk and hike the area all the time, but now I'm getting to know Sierra Madre on a first-name basis.

Oh, thank you, Hiker! I fear I've gone a bit over-the-top on the Cliffy factor! :)

Chieftess, it was so fun to walk around with Petrea. Her camera sees things that my camera has walked right by!

Likewise, Adele. That's why photo safaris can be so much fun. Otherwise we'd all be taking the same pictures.

It's a lovely thought that someone will pick up Camelot & Vine from that little kiosk and embark on the grand adventure.

Thanks, Ann. It's a lovely thought to me, too! I'm continuing to spread them around to the LFLs I know of.

Love seeing Camelot & Vine into the LFL.

I am glad I visit Adele's blog. Great pictures there! Love the name Sierra Madre too.

Ah! So beautiful your new template, Petrea.

What a delightful location for a Little Free Library! If there was a comfy chair I could happily sit in that beautiful spot sampling the available books.

I really want one of those little libraries.

Hi Sonia! "Sierra Madre" has a romantic sound to it in English, even if we know what it means!

I feel the same, Hamilton.

That's probably why they didn't put a chair out, Katie.

Click the link, Margaret. It's not hard to do. They'll send you all the materials if you want, or you can make your own.

Well, it just kind of came up, PA. I found a Little Free Library in Altadena, and the idea just hit me. So I made a list of addresses. I'll get to them when I can, and post them. Hopefully people will go find them.

sounds like you and Adele had a fun photo trek. I love these mini libraries. This one is in a lovely setting. And good to see C&V on its shelf.

This is fantastic. Love the photos and that concept. Enjoyed reading all about it over on Adele's blog too. Bet your book has been borrowed already, Petrea.

I love these libraries, too, Ms. M. Some are restricted to particular types of books, like books on gardening, or children's books. I'm tempted to put one in our yard and see what happens.

Lauren, I hope so!
