Hahamongna Detail Week, Just One More

Thanks for coming along on our Hahamongna details tour. There are a million more intriguing little bits to discover out there. To give you an idea of how varied and variable Hahamongna is, I never even noticed the sign here in John's picture, and I've walked in the park at least once a week for seven years.
The landscape changes with every season. Paths we learn in summer and fall are rearranged with the spring rains. It's a place where city dwellers can relax and let their lizard brains reach out and connect--with ancestors, with nature, with what was and with what is. Hell, you can even connect with lizards.

  1. I'm not sure I want to connect with lizards but I've enjoyed your pictures!

  2. Everyone should have a 'Hahamongna Watershed Park' to walk through. Mine is Coombe Country Park. Never tire of it. Lovely series, Petrea.

  3. Thanks, BD!

Lauren, that is well said. Everyone should have their Hahamongna, or their Coombe Country Park.

  6. Such an interesting sign. Does it mean Pasadena is falling apart in its care of Hahamongna? Or does it point to the Hahamongna "land grab" in the 1800s that ensured that Pasadena owned the river valley that flowed out the mountains while the places that actually border the area - Altadena and La Canada - didn't. It was a wise move by the first American farmers who came from the east after the Rancho days, as it provided their water supply.

  7. Wonderful to think of our lizard brains reaching out and connecting to something essential and primeval. I need my doctor to write a prescription for Hahamonga for me!

  10. Scout caught a lizard the other day. I think she wasn't prepared for her success. She had to spit it right out.

  11. Poor lizard! Poor Scout! But I'm proud of her. Boz thinks he's a big time lizard hunter, but he's never caught one.

We took Boz along the road north of JPL today, so he could enjoy the forest and play in water. On a cold day it might have been all right, but he's not going as far as he used to, and today wore him out.
