Monthly Theme Day: Umbrellas

You may know that City Daily Photo is a worldwide blogging community. We have a few rules, but they're pretty loose.

For instance, we're not required to participate in theme days.

But I like theme days. They connect me with the other bloggers who make up this fantastic group. With our new City Daily Photo portal, we've added more (optional) theme days this year, some in which I may or may not participate in. Of. Which. What?

I used to link you to our newest member blog on theme day, but our new website works differently and I don't know which is the newest. So I'll just send us all to one I haven't visited yet. Today I think I'll go say hi to Yogyakarta Daily Photo.

The photo above: looking up from the parking lot behind Little Flower Candy Company, where I had lunch and bought the most delicious, handmade sea salt caramels ever.

Oh, rub it in. Handmade sea salt caramels?! Can I bribe you to send me some, Petrea? This is a very perky and cheery photo ~ and perfect to see me into the weekend. Thank you!

You are always so nice to remind us to visit new blogs.

That's funny, an umbrella under an awning.

I love all the parallel lines!

At the time when I clicked on the link #64 was the latest.. Wow, I love the examples of umbrellas... Yours is so striking because of the clean lines converging together, yet never quite running into each other!. :-)

You absolutely can, Shell.

I don't know why it ended up that way, Dina. This balcony is where the employees take their breaks. Maybe they needed extra shade.

Geoff, I saw it from the side and didn't realize how many lines there were until I got under it.

I was #71, KBF. Since the new website has been built we have fewer members. It turned out many of the older sites weren't daily or no longer existed. I don't know how many there are now.

Love all those stripes and slats.

Those caramels are Josie's FAVORITE. Little Flower is near my kids' school so I do pop in from time to time. Try the goat cheese and grilled beet salad. It's pricey but de-lish. Love the photo today!

Somehow, that delicious photo goes so perfectly with your description of handmade sea salt caramels. What I'd do to sit there all day, eating all the caramels I like...

Little Flower has recently published a cookbook. I wonder if they have a recipe for those caramels?

Happy, Happy, Happy. I love it when you photograph a place I know. Well, I don't know this place but I know the location really well. I wonder if anyone saw you photograph the umbrella :). (PS. Enjoying the book!!!!)

lots of lines...
great photo for theme day.
Happy Theme Day :)

Well done. Using lines like this is difficult, you have pulled it off.

Petrea Burchard said...

It was lunch hour, Lauren, so I was probably seen. They're always busy at that time of day.

Thank you, Jo!

You too, Mo. I couldn't resist this one.

Fun photo, but I'm completely distracted by the thought of sea salt caramels!

An umbrella underneath an awning, eh? Are they worried about satellite surveillance? Is the sea salt caramel recipe that secret? Off to get some to analyze - well, that's my excuse anyway.

Kate said...

The most striking aspect of this photo is the wealth of lines! So many to underscore the lines on the umbrella!

Petrea Burchard said...

I think we should all meet there for coffee and caramels to discuss.

Coffee and caramels together? OMG, the thought makes me all gooey inside. I used to have a dog that loved caramels. If I wanted 3, I'd buy 6 knowing she was going to demand a share. When I brought the little sack into the house, she'd follow me around until it was opened; she could smell the candies because their essence seeped through the wrapping into the sack. I'd tear them apart - half for her, half for me - and we'd both just sit, our eyes half shut from pleasure as we slowly ate our treats. It was fun to watch her, of course, because the candy would get stuck in the roof of her mouth and she'd take forever to lick it to nothing.

I love the varegated stripes with the umbrella providing angles. Two-tiered sun protection for the employees, who may not be wearing sunscreen?

Fantastic photo! And the sea salt caramels and coffee sound great, too.

Nice stripes in this photo. You caught a good one.

Love the photo! I'm ready for a meet and greet. These caramels are beyond intriguing.

Susan Zentmyer said...

I love the lines!

Petrea Burchard said...

Thank you all! I'm so glad you like it.

Good idea, Adele. We'll have to do this one on a weekday, though, because weekends are busy. Maybe a late afternoon weekend would work.

TheChieftess said...

I'd like that beet salad before indulging in caramels...can we sit outside under the umbrella...I promise to wear stripes!!!

Halfway through Camelot and Vine and loving it!!!

PerthDailyPhoto said...

Fabulous graphic image, I really like it but for some strange reason all I can think about are sea salt caramels! The Chieftess' idea about wearing stripes made me smile, talk about camouflage haha!

Petrea Burchard said...

Every time I post pictures of one of our special little foodie spots, I want to get us all together there. Susan could make it from San Diego. Chieftess could make it from Mammoth, though it's a long drive. Gracie, we will work this around your schedule. Perhaps you, Jo and Shell can carpool.

TheChieftess said...

Not such a bad drive for something special!!!

Petrea Burchard said...

Well, Jack, Kate and Speedway are going to have to fly, but we'll have the Aussies pick them up at the airport.

Adele said...

I can make a weekday late afternoon work! (My commute to Pasadena is considerably shorter than many...)

Petrea Burchard said...

All right. We'll put this together as soon as the Aussie Lassies can get here...
Kidding. We'll do it and hope they make it.

Petrea Burchard said...

Tanya, I think the effort to visit all the theme blogs is valiant! Thank you for stopping by. I always mean to do it and never quite make it.
