Effusive Valentine

I thought about using this picture for Zen Monday, but apparently that thought has crossed my mind before.

I decided not to make fun of this house, though, or these people. I think they just love their holidays. I don't know if I'd want to be their neighbor, but it's better than gang members hanging out on the front porch. (Always looking on the bright side, that's me.)

So, happy Valentine's Day to you. Some people hate this day. I did, when I was single. But I love you! Isn't that enough?

Yeah. I know.

  1. I've seen houses decorated for Halloween and Christmas but this one is a first for me. Maybe this could be the start of a trend ♥♥♥♥♥

  2. Wow, this is a first... never seen a house decorated for Valentine's... yeah, I agree with ya on the simple "I Love You".... One should not need a reminder when it comes to something that does not need any proding.

  3. Wow. How very interesting. I think the no stopping any time sign was well placed. Happy Valentines Day.

  4. Is that a shrine on the right? I've never been a VDay fan in all my various states of being, still, so long as they don't leave it up until the Fourth of July, it's kind of sweet.

  5. It's not a bad idea for a trend, Andy & KBF. I've seen a few hearts in a few yards, but this one beats all.

Bayside, I thought it was a nice touch.

Karin, by the fourth of July they'll have gone through the St. Patrick's Day and Easter decorations, packed them away and taken out the red bunting again to add it to white and blue.

  6. Oh my, but yes, I'd rather have crazy decor and cupids dancing across my porch than gang members, haha! I've a kinda love/hate relationship with this day, but I guess if it's all about love, it's got to be all good:)

  7. The first time they decorated, I had a suspicion they were running a decoration store. Now, having seen this house through multiple holidays including the June wedding season, I have come to just accept it as people with time on their hands and membership cards at Michaels and Big Lots.

  8. Oh my!!! Someone really goes a little crazy over their holidays!!!

We gave up going to dinner (down south) on Valentine's Day about 5 or 6 years ago...tired of waiting for two hours then having less than stellar service and lukewarm food. We do still do cards...although, since we moved up here, dinner out on V day is not so bad...

  9. Lulu, the cynic in me says it's all about commerce, but we could set aside a day for worse things than gifts of romance.

Well said, Betty! Someone there has some leisure to spend.

We'll probably stay in and watch a movie. Considering we usually stay in and work, that is very romantic.

  10. Cute with just a soupçon of scary.

  11. Sending you Valentine's Day wishes across the miles (as the cards say), loveable Petrea.
And I'm glad that house is thousands of miles away from me.

  12. Love Dina's comment about location of house. It is a wonderful photo for today and Happy Valentine's Day to you!

  13. Oh to have the time, money and energy to do this, though my neighbors would disown me. My sister worked for a flower wholesaler in London and the 14th was the best day of the year for the flower industry. I preferred the old days when it was just about getting a card from a secret admirer, not a partner or parent. Did you ever get one of those?

  14. I love it! I doubt that on that particular street, it's for commerce; most people don't even know Elmira is there, it's a teeny-tiny narrow little lane.

I do see quite a few houses decorated for Valentine's Day in Pasadena; remember, we have beautiful weather this time of year! Most are not quite this elaborate, though.

  15. I can't remember ever getting a card from a secret admirer, Bellis. How sweet.

Laura, it's on the corner of Elmira and El Molino, so plenty of people see it! I should have mentioned that for folks who might like to drive by and have a look.

  16. Do they hand out treats during the various holidays? If you knocked on the door (dressed as a valentine), would they give you some candy hearts?

St. Patrick's would be tricky -- unless they gave a tiny bag of Lucky Charms.

  17. Ms. M, See's makes chocolates shaped like shamrocks and wrapped in gold foil. Also "Irish Potatoes," which is 2 1/2 oz. of divinity with English walnuts (hmm...) that is coated with a blend of cocoa powder & cinnamon and has pine nut "eyes". I'll take one of those!

  18. Those sound almost as good as See's chocolate Easter eggs!!!

  19. I have one of these neighbors - but he mixes the holiday. Nice seeing baby Jesus amidst a crowd of easter egg laying zombies

  20. I think I'd enjoy that. It opens one up for creativity.

  21. I love this house. How wonderful to abandon yourself to the decorating. This would never be allowed in parts of Florida! Yes, there is a shrine that is dedicated to the Virgen de Guadalupe.
