Bookmarks: The Chocolate Princess in the Land of Plenty
When Yolanda Allen walks into a room, you already know she's coming because her smile gets there first. I met her at Webster's Fine Stationers in Altadena, where I was visiting with Lori and Scott Webster about selling my book in their store.
(Lori & Scott are die-hard supporters of local artists of all kinds. Both of my thumbs go up to them, plus all my fingers, toes, and elbows.)
Yolanda and her sister Valerie Jackson worked long and hard to create The Chocolate Princess in the Land of Plenty, a "classically-styled, contemporary fairytale for readers of all ages." This beautiful book catches your eye on the shelf. Illustrator Sylvia L. Walker has created a work of art on every page.
You can get a signed copy for your little princess tomorrow, February 10th, at The Rose Bowl Flea Market where the authors will have a table from 9am to 3pm. If you miss that, show up at Webster's Fine Stationers on Saturday, February 16, 2013 between 1pm and 3pm for a book signing with Valerie, Yolanda, and illustrator Sylvia L. Walker.
If you don't have a little princess of your own, chocolate or other, you still might Like the Facebook page.
The Altadena/Pasadena Black History parade is the 16th, starting at 10am. You have time to see the Parade and go to the book signing!

What an adorable cover... who wouldn't buy that book!. I bet u will have good success in getting shops to sell yours as well!.
Yolanda really does have a beautiful smile. How wonderful for you to be in a place that values and supports local artists. I'll have to order a copy of your book. Good luck with the marketing.
I think this book will be one of those classics the kids will keep to read to their own children some day.
Bayside, the arts one reason people move here.
Great title--great fun
That sure is a gorgeous cover; as bright as Yolanda's smile.
Yolanda has a great smile and what looks to be a great group of princesses. Gads are they cute.
Shout out to Websters. They are good about representing the community.
Yes: great title and fun, and gorgeous and bright, and PA you are so right! "Gads" is the word, those girls are darling.
Webster's Fine Stationers is so good to us. I like being good right back whenever I can.
How could you have not been immediately drawn to Yolanda with a smile like that! The book looks very sweet - I hope it does well. And yay for Webster's and their support of local artists and writers!
Looks adorable.
Great good luck! The little girl's expression reminds me of Pippi Longstocking, so I'm sure it's a most wonderful story.
A story about empowering little girls has got to be great.
I like the way Yolanda has dressed in the colors of the book. So Petrea, how will you dress for your book promotions??
Bellis, she didn't know she'd be getting her picture taken! She just happened to look that nice.
I'm debating what to wear. I have the clothes Casey wears (bought at the Gap in Oxford), sans the Rodeo Drive boots. But book promotions justify a new outfit, don't you think?
I think book promotions definitely justify a new outfit. Do you have anything scheduled yet?
Love the title and cover! I hope Yolanda sells lots of books. I'll have to get over to Webster's and buy a copy.
So far I have one book club, a charity event and (tentatively) a festival. I'm also looking for a place to hold my launch party!
I can feel that smile all the way down here in B'ham!
V
You will keep us all posted on these important events, yes?
V, you betcha.
I feel for Yolanda today. It's cold here, and sitting outside the Rose Bowl might be chilly. But she'll warm the hearts of those who stop by.
Susan, so far yes (and thank you for asking). But I hope to get so many events as to bore you. If/when that happens I'll put a calendar on my website, petreaburchard.com.
That looks like a wonderful book! I hope they had a good crowd come by their table.
Petrea, what great photo of Yolanda, and thanks so much for your post!
We just love this book, just like I know we'll love yours, and I'm looking forward to a book signing event with you - I'm sure you'll pack the house!
Unfortunately, we had to postpone our book signing with Yolanda,
Valerie, and Sylvia, due to an illness in the family. Val and Yolanda's niece, daughter of the sister The Chocolate Princess is dedicated to, suffered a brain aneurism and had surgery on Valentine's Day. Please join us in sending healing thoughts and prayers to their niece at Huntington Memorial, and the signing will be re-scheduled just as soon as the family is able.
I'm so sorry to hear this, Lori! That's very serious. We'll all be thinking of her. Please do let us know if and when Yolanda and Valerie can reschedule, with lighter hearts.
