I hope you enjoyed the parade! I'll add links later as I find them.
Here's one already! Dive is watching the Parade in Norwich, England.
The first of the year is traditionally a theme day for City Daily Photo. In the past we've shared our "best photo of the year." We're skipping that today and will do a different theme later in the month. I'll do a little "best of" retrospective tomorrow.
For now, here's a favorite picture I haven't posted before. I took it in December of 2008, while Boz and I were gallivanting about in the Lower Arroyo near the Colorado Street Bridge. I began this blog on January 1, 2008, which means today marks five years of daily blogging.
I am nuts.
You get it down to a system, but it's still nuts.
Rewarding, but nuts.
Thank you for visiting and commenting, for your support and encouragement. I wish you the happiest new year. Make every day better than the last.
Wish you a very happy New Year. A very peaceful picture to start the year, I like that.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Petrea!
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and yours!
Five years of daily blogging? Wow. I may not always comments but I love stopping by to see what treat you're sharing with us.
Read that Jane Goodall is the Grand Marshall- how sweet is that!.. Love that photo of Boz, then again, there isn't one I don't like!. Wishing u a happy new year!.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2013 and a very Happy 5th Blog Birthday too. You deserve a medal! Great Parade and great photo, well done!
ReplyDeleteHappy New year and congratulations for 5 years of nuts, sorry, blogging.
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for the link, Petrea. I'm now watching the build-up live, having already enjoyed a splendid New Year's Day (see SGP). What a fine way to finish the holidays, with a photo of Boz the Magnificent and some live sunshine from Pasadena.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Birthday, and here's to the next five years.
Good morning! I had a glass of wine last night AND a couple of sips of whiskey, and I feel fine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comments. I'm so glad you all visit, and especially glad you like pictures of Boz as he tours Pasadena, because I like photographing him.
William, we'll just see who's nuts. I'll check back with you in about four years.
Dive, you really deserve a trip to Pasadena. You love the parade as much as the locals do.
This morning, aircraft zoom above. I heard the cheer go up as the parade began (and I live a good 2 1/2 miles away). It is delightful that so many people love it so much, and come to our beautiful town to enjoy it. I hide out from the crowds, but that doesn't mean I don't welcome them.
Such a lovely shot for today, Petrea. I just finished watching the Rose Parade on the web (highlight of my day) and will watch the Rose Bowl game on ESPN on cable TV here in the UK. Congrats on your 5 year anniversary. An achievement!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Petrea. Nuts may be just the right word, but oh, so rewarding! I look forward to many more of your posts this year. I just finished watching Bob and Stephanie tell me all about the floats. Hope you have a great day, as the crowds recede!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Petrea!!! And may your beloved Pasadena get back to "normal" soon!!!
ReplyDeleteSome great moments (the serviceman's reunion), some cheesy moments (the wedding), some spectacular floats (just about all of 'em), some awesome moments (the B2 flypast) and my favourite gaffe of the day (when one of the bands came past playing an arrangement of Beethoven's 9th, Steph pipes up with "They're playing a hymn … how did that happen?").
ReplyDeleteToo much fun!
Parade participants on foot walk something like 5-7 miles. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteI've been watching in bits without the sound. I'll have to sit down with my headphones on and see the whole thing now, for the great, awesome and cheesy moments.
Thanks for the congrats, everyone.
I'm watching the re-run. Just saw the wedding. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's quite a mixture of delights in the parade. Salvation Army and a Roman chariot in the first couple of minutes!
Linda, everybody gets a chance to participate. It's big and wild.
ReplyDeleteIf that mangy wild dog would get out of the way, I could look at the pretty bridge.
ReplyDeleteWow - I am impressed that the link works in Canada (so many time the US networks block the videos) I did manage to watch most of tit this morning for the first time in years.
ReplyDeleteI am also impressed that you have managed 5 years of daily postings and plan to continue for a 6th :)
We shall see, Hamilton. I'll go as long as I can.
ReplyDeleteBoz was recognized today on his walk. He's a celebrity. He's going to have to start wearing sunglasses.
Happy New Year to you too, and more importantly Happy 5-year Anniversary! I am so impressed with 5 years of posting. Here's to a wonderful 2013 and many more posts!
ReplyDeleteI love this photo of the ever-photogenic Boz!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your 5th Blog-o-versary! Looking forward to following your adventures in the new year. :-)
Dive, Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" is used as the tune for at least two hymns, so it wasn't really a gaffe. I forget which band was playing that. My favorite musical gaffe was the Seminole band playing "Mars" from "The Planets".
ReplyDeletePetrea, I truly admire you. I have not entered anything in my blog since my first grandchild was born in March--not even pix of my second grandchild. No one reads my blog and I found Facebook is better at promoting my Examiner column, so there you go.
It's been a busy day for me (up to see the floats along Orange Grove and then to watch the parade, home to rewatch it on TV, a walk in the Arroyo with a 3 year old hunting dinosaurs, and watching the Americana at Brand's cheesy dancing fountains), so here's wishing you a Happy New Year, and congratulations on your "5th Birthday." You must be one of the longest-running dailybloggers, because I'm sure that for many it can easily become a daily chore. I didn't know Boz 5 years ago, what a handsome guy he was.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your good words today and your friendship throughout the year. If the Mayans have it right, this new year is the start of a new cycle during which "we are going to be better."

I'm ready for that!
Congrats on 5 years (and a day!) of blogging. That's quite an amazing accomplishment! I look forward to many more Pasadena posts. And I like this flashback photo of Boz!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky we all are that you are nuts! Happy 5 year-anniversary! Happy New Year!
ReplyDelete"We are going to be better." I love that. I'm ready for that, too. I'm looking forward to many more of your posts, especially those with Boz. I hope blogging continues to be fun and rewarding for you.
Happy blog birthday and thanks for all your dedication and hard work!
ReplyDeleteNuts, true. By chance I posted a forest floor full of acorn nuts for my new year post. Now I will see it in your way too.
Maybe a whole year of Boz? Or a whole year of nuts? I'd have to change the blog name.
ReplyDeleteIt's why I chose to live where I do. I looked in Tujungna, Altadena, Mount Washington, but it was my little house closest to the Arroyo, where my favorite childhood memories were lived.
