The other day I enjoyed the company of:
Sierra Madre,
Bean Town coffee,
and
Adele,
not necessarily in that order.
Adele is the host/writer/photographer/historian at Seeing Sierra Madre: One Photo at a Time. She and I met at Bean Town for a cup, then headed north on Baldwin Avenue with our cameras. Right away, we came to this cute shop called Belle's Nest. Take a look at their website and just let the slide show play for you.
I might post more Sierra Madre pics from time to time. Adele and I aren't territorial. Meanwhile, check out her blog. She includes a lot of local history in her posts. I enjoy seeing Sierra Madre through her eyes.
How adorable are those little bird 'motels' ?! Belle's Nest is a lovely shop, Petrea, and here's to handmade objets. They will save the world someday {or make it more beautiful at the very least}.

I've got a similar birdhouse like those!... except the shape is more cylindrical... and it has a sunflower painted on the front....

ReplyDeleteThe San Gabriel Valley is well-populated, yet you feel like you're in a country village when you're in Sierra Madre. I can drive there from my house in about 15 minutes. I could probably walk there, but you'd have to carry me back.

Oh, thank you, thank you, Petrea!! It was a fun morning, and I look forward to doing it again sometime. Maybe on your side of town! Your photo came out beautifully. Your other readers will be interested to hear how you glanced over and saw that shot, and took the photo immmediately. You made it look so easy, and the picture is amazing! I took one, too, but won't be sharing mine! :) (Oh, and "skellington" is new to me, too!)
ReplyDeleteSierra Madre is one of the few places in SoCal where you can leave merchandise out and not worry about it being stolen (though someone did steal a cow statue recently). It used to be cheap to get a house there, long time ago when the San Gabriels were still called the Sierra Madre, but then people discovered it. It is a lovely town, and not at all snooty.
ReplyDeleteBTW, their self-built Rose Parade float won the Isabella Coleman trophy, the first self-built in at least 12 years to do so.
What a creative way of recycling :)

Because the Rose Parade ran late (because of that wedding on the float, amongst other things), the TV broadcast stopped before the Sierra Madre float had gone by, so only those of us actually there got to see it. Pity, as it was much better than some of the large and expensive corporate floats. Glad it won a trophy.
Sounds like you both had a wonderful time, and got great captures out of it! These (and other things at Belle's Nest) are beautiful, we need more handmade objects in this world:)
