The other day I enjoyed the company of:
Sierra Madre,
Bean Town coffee,
and
Adele,
not necessarily in that order.
Adele is the host/writer/photographer/historian at Seeing Sierra Madre: One Photo at a Time. She and I met at Bean Town for a cup, then headed north on Baldwin Avenue with our cameras. Right away, we came to this cute shop called Belle's Nest. Take a look at their website and just let the slide show play for you.
I might post more Sierra Madre pics from time to time. Adele and I aren't territorial. Meanwhile, check out her blog. She includes a lot of local history in her posts. I enjoy seeing Sierra Madre through her eyes.

How adorable are those little bird 'motels' ?! Belle's Nest is a lovely shop, Petrea, and here's to handmade objets. They will save the world someday {or make it more beautiful at the very least}.
Shell be me to it they are beautiful, simple and hand made too. Our birdlife needs all the help it can get.
next time i'm in l.a. we are going to have a cuppa! thanks for the link, i'm sending it to the coconut krewe! xoxox
HAPPY NEW YEAR, sugar! ;)
I've got a similar birdhouse like those!... except the shape is more cylindrical... and it has a sunflower painted on the front....
What a great place!
I want those skellingtons on their website,
Oh, this is just great! All of it (in no particularly order :). Bet you both had a super time!!!!
Very quirky places for birds to bed down!
The San Gabriel Valley is well-populated, yet you feel like you're in a country village when you're in Sierra Madre. I can drive there from my house in about 15 minutes. I could probably walk there, but you'd have to carry me back.
Now I have to go look up "skellington;" I have no idea what that is.
Oh. I get it.
I love Sierra Madre too!!! And really enjoy following Adele's photographic forays into the culture and history...
(I had to look up skellington too!)
Love this! Always nice to see lovely Sierra Madre in photos; and nice to learn of a shop that's sorta/kinda like ours!
Happy New Year to you, Petrea!
Chieftess, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I like the word.
Lori, we didn't go outside so I can't tell you how similar it is, but surely the comparison can be made because they support local craftspeople, as do you folks at Websters FS.
Oh, thank you, thank you, Petrea!! It was a fun morning, and I look forward to doing it again sometime. Maybe on your side of town! Your photo came out beautifully. Your other readers will be interested to hear how you glanced over and saw that shot, and took the photo immmediately. You made it look so easy, and the picture is amazing! I took one, too, but won't be sharing mine! :) (Oh, and "skellington" is new to me, too!)
Sierra Madre is one of the few places in SoCal where you can leave merchandise out and not worry about it being stolen (though someone did steal a cow statue recently). It used to be cheap to get a house there, long time ago when the San Gabriels were still called the Sierra Madre, but then people discovered it. It is a lovely town, and not at all snooty.
BTW, their self-built Rose Parade float won the Isabella Coleman trophy, the first self-built in at least 12 years to do so.
What a creative way of recycling :)
That's very generous of you, Adele. I had such a good time. Can't wait to do it again.
Laura, I believe Adele will post pictures of the float tomorrow. I heard it was a good one.
Welcome, Birgitta. Speaking of good blogs, your photos are wonderful.
I love that shop and want to buy everything in it I've been so tempted by those bird houses.
I read Adele's interesting blog every day, but don't have time to comment. Adele, you're doing a great job!
Because the Rose Parade ran late (because of that wedding on the float, amongst other things), the TV broadcast stopped before the Sierra Madre float had gone by, so only those of us actually there got to see it. Pity, as it was much better than some of the large and expensive corporate floats. Glad it won a trophy.
Sounds like you both had a wonderful time, and got great captures out of it! These (and other things at Belle's Nest) are beautiful, we need more handmade objects in this world:)
Now I know what all those jailbirds make in prison.
I know what you mean, Bellis. I'm reading a lot of blogs these days and I like them all, but commenting takes time. I appreciate it every time a comment comes in here.
Lulu, I agree. I also think supporting our local artisans and independent retailers will get us out of the recession and keep us out, as long as we keep it up.
Har! JS, maybe we could tweet that with the photo.
I know what you mean too, Bellis. I am so happy to hear that you read my blog - that means a lot. (...and thanks so much for your comment today!)
I don't know what the birdhouses are actually called, but I think Jailbird Houses just might catch on!
That's a cool shop! And those are cute birdhouses...er jailbird houses.
It's fun to read about "Blogville" folks meeting in person. Sounds like you had a great time.
We did, Ms. M. And look out, Boise, when you and I get together!
Well, maybe just look out coffee shops and hiking trails.
