Peace Pole

I'm thinking of not telling you where this is. Some people will know, of course. But this is the sort of urban art the authorities love to remove, and I think it's kind of nice. It's human. Anyone can make one.

Bellis and I think there's something to it. She led me there, and there is where both of our dogs got confused. They suddenly couldn't hear us. I think Boz was faking, but maybe not.

  2. This is a first for me. I have never seen or heard of a peace pole before. It's an interesting concept.

  3. How beautiful! Though I hope I don't go deaf if I happen upon one...

  4. Love it, but why can't they have it standing straight? or is that how peace rolls?

  5. looks like someone discovered a vortex

  6. One of the reasons I love it here, JB.

My thought is, Andy, that whenever someone puts a thought out there, any thought, it spreads. So why not?

    That would be nice, JS.

    Shell, see PA's comment.

KBF, it could be that's how peace rolls. It could also be that the stake wasn't easy to put into the ground.

PA, we might have. Abby got lost there earlier in the day, then Boz did when we came back later. Then I lost Bellis AND the dogs, because I couldn't hear them, which explains why the dogs got lost. Configuration of the land and chapparral, maybe.

  7. Why aren't there more things like this outside of the West Coast, eh? Wonderful find, wonderful capture. I hope I stumble onto something like this here one day.

  8. Isn't there an old tradition of peace poles or something like that in the American Indian culture???

  9. I think there are, Lulu. It's like a modern-day stele.

I don't know, Chieftess. Want to do the research?

  10. Temporary tagging of this sort doesn't bother me. As for the vortex, there are many who believe the old Cobb estate is haunted.

  11. If the Cobb Estate's haunted, it would explain all the strange things that happened. The pole may be drawing the wrong kind of vortex out the ground. I mean, my dog has never gone missing like that before, and Boz doesn't usually head the wrong way. Plus there was a suicide on the hill above there on Saturday. Creepy.

  12. We found some strange writing on the rocks, too. I don't think it's haunted (I'm so practical!) but it's a lonely place if you want it to be.

  13. Lots of churches in Pasadena & Altadena have peace poles. They are not as colorful, and, well, hippie. They are four-sided poles with your choice of languages on each side that say "May peace prevail on earth". I have friends who have one in their yard at Monte Vista Grove Homes.

You can see them here http://www.peacepoles.com/ OR here http://www.peacepoleproject.org/

  15. I think I'll plant a peace tree.

  16. Thanks for the links, y'all. Now I realize I've seen many of these. I just didn't know what they were called. It's catching on.

    I like that idea, Bellis.

  17. Oh, I wish. It seems so naive...

  18. Fascinating find. Maybe the peace vibes disrupted the sound waves in the area. :-) I like Bellis's idea of planting a peace tree.

  19. First the tiny libraries, and now the peace poles. Pasadena is amazing...

  20. I know, Bob. Yet I wish, too. Worth a try.

Ms. M, Bellis knows where all the good stuff is.

Adele, I think Pasadena's amazing, too. Yet I don't think either of those things began here.

  21. Let's hope it works.

Hmm, I wonder what the dogs tuned in to, or turned into.

  22. Boz disappeared in seconds, Dina. Bellis and I ran off in different directions to find him, and for a couple of minutes we couldn't hear each other. Weather? Land shape? I think Boz lost sight of us behind a clump of bushes for a couple of seconds, and when he couldn't hear us he got confused.

  23. Sounds like the peace pole turned out to be disorienting. I'm curious where it is, so I've added to my idea bowl, "find the peace pole."
