Camelot Where You Are #27, JB

JB took this picture in Shaker Village, New Hampshire. I'm not sure how he got there, but he's a worldly guy. He and Ms. JB live part of the year in Mainz, Germany and part of the year in New Zealand, and the rest of the time they're away.

**********

The Camelot Where You Are photo contest returns! We have a guest author tomorrow (yay!), then more entries Thursday and Friday.
The rate of entries has slowed but the contest is still open, so if you'd like to enter I'd love it if you did. Please read the rules here then send in your photo.

I still don't have a publication date for Camelot & Vine. I appreciate you all being so patient with me. I step on the rug and it moves,
but it doesn't get pulled out from under me, so I keep on stepping. To quote Kat Ward, owner of Hometown Pasadena and author of Amy's Own
"Publishing is like construction; it always takes longer than you think (and can cost more, too). Hang in there!"

You know something...I like this composition. We will be patient, Petrea, cause I know the wait will be worth it!

Thanks, LOL. I wonder where he was--a bookstore, maybe. This is the second King Arthur Flour rendition we've seen and I had never heard of it before the contest.

Surely it'd be King Arthur's 1,500th anniversary about now?

Petrea Burchard said...

I believe so, Bellis. Somewhere around in there. Funny to think of the legendary king as a great baker.

His Crusader outfit suggests that the Once and Future King came back in 1189 disguised as the King Richard the Lionheart. Or is that a large baker's apron he's wearing?

Petrea Burchard said...

Well, the legend does say he'll return when Britain needs him--although I'm not sure he was needed for the Crusades. And my guess is he's not wearing an apron but I don't doubt he's waving one.

Darn it! Another book for my list. The Amazonians love it when I order books from the US; the postage costs ten times what the book does.
I've gotta have this one, though … if only to tide me over until C&V comes out.

Not available on Amazon UK? Shocked. I'm shocked, I tell you.

The Canterbury Shaker Village has a small but very good shop selling Shaker designs - furniture plus smaller stuff.
Saw it there.

Love this unusual capture (and that there are other ocean-hopping couples out there). I admit to loving King Arthur flour, but did not know they had a 200th anniversary cookbook - very fabulous:)

p.s. And that's a wonderful quote - yes, hang in there!

JB, thanks for your contribution. The Canterbury Shaker Village looks like a lovely spot! http://www.shakers.org/ Definitely worth a visit.

Lulu, some of us are ocean-hopping couples and some of us aspire to be.

Great find! Now somewhere out there is the King Alfred cookbook........

Those will be some good old recipes, Deb.

In an email about this post, JB said (and I repost with permission), "Made me think - my Dad's name was Arthur and his brother Frank's wife used to write to us weekly in New Zealand, talking about this and that, but mostly extolling the weather.
Dad - having grown up in the same North Yorkshire village as they had (and where they still lived) - used to say "You'd think they were living in Camelot…."

JB posted this lovely slide show of Canterbury Shaker Village on his blog: http://bit.ly/SXiEDQ

if u are a member of Amazon u can look at a few pages of the book. Quite interesting list of dates they have posted about King Arthur flour, how the baking came about, etc.

Looks like a fascinating cookbook, whether it be 200 or 1500 years.

These references to kings and flour reminded me of the King Biscuit Flower Hour. I think they had their own version of Camelot....

Aren't we all members of Amazon, KBF? I'll check that out.

I remember the King Biscuit Flower Hour, Ms. M! I looked it up on Wikipedia, and I hadn't realized it was named for a product called King Biscuit Flour!

27 posts on Camelot! You're working very hard on it.

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, Valladolid. Yep! I think I'll give it a rest after this week, so as not to wear everyone out!

Another excellent Camelot find! I saw King Arthur Flour at Whole Foods the other day and thought of this contest. Amazing they have a cookbook, too.

I remember when you got to meet JB in person. I love his sense of humor. Today's post on "You Must Be From Away" is hilarious!

Twice now. I even got a hug last time....

I won't make one of those smiley faces.
