It's been a great week here on the blog. I hope you'll vote for your favorite photo in the Camelot Where You Are contest from this week's entries. The ballot is over there at the top left and you can vote until midnight Sunday. Easy to vote and easy to enter! Each week's winner gets a free copy of Camelot & Vine when it comes out this fall!
I haven't been idle this week, oh no, I've been taking pictures and pursuing my bookish ways, sometimes at the same time. Last weekend I attended a book signing at Curve Line Space in Eagle Rock for The Map of Lost Memories by Kim Fay. It sounds like a wonderful book, literally! That's Kim on the left, and on the right is Karyn O'Bryant, the actor who voiced the audiobook.
I've mentioned Karyn before, a couple of times. She and I have acted in plays together and we're old friends. Kim and I are new friends. She's going to be a guest author here on PDP soon, so we can all look forward to that. I already like her, and I have to say it was especially lovely of her to invite Karyn to her signing and share the spotlight with her on her big day. Surrounded by the works of Edward Flynn, both Kim and Karyn read from The Map of Lost Memories.
I can't wait to read this book! And uh, hear it. Either way. (Although I admit I'm holding out for the audiobook.) The plot sounds exciting: set in early 20th century Cambodia, two mismatched women set out on a dangerous quest. The author has lived in southeast Asia and knows the land of which she writes.
Take a look at praise and description from Kim's website.

I checked out the reviews on Amazon and some are saying the book is more about the characters than the adventure... which, I don't think there is anything wrong in that.. To me the characters do add a lot to the adventure!. One review called it Indiana Jane and i was thinking it as well.. It sounds like its a different twist on adventure books.. Will have to add this to my list.
"Indiana Jane!" Yes, sounds like it might be. Though I enjoy a good adventure I prefer a book that's gives more weight to the characters, so I'm looking forward to that.
This sounds great! You travel in such interesting circles! I, too, would rather have the focus on the characters. Oh, and I have to admit to my little moment of smugness here, when I was all "Oh, that's Karyn. I know her!" :)
Sounds like my kind of book! Is the audio version available yet? I tend to fall asleep when I read a book, unless it's one of those with lots of page turners, so I prefer to listen while driving.
I know, Adele! We know a star!
The audiobook is available, Bellis: http://amzn.to/OPtR7B
This definitely sounds like my kind of book too; who can resist an interesting location and strong women characters! I can't wait to read it, unless they have a cassette tape version, which is all I can listen to in my car.
Yay to another published author!
Katie, this book IS you. It's all about you.
No kidding, Des. It has always been an achievement, and these days especially.
My routine has been disrupted this week but when I have had a chance it has been fun to see what's happening in/with Camelot. Everyone is enjoying it, Petrea. Lovely of you to feature a friend's book today. They have Amazon.uk here so I will have a look.
Indiana Jane ~ very clever! Suspense, intrigue, and great characters ~ sounds like my cup of tea, Petrea.
This sounds like it would be a good read. Thanks for featuring Kim Fay and her novel on your blog, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.
LOL, let us know if you see the book on AmazonUK. Several PDP readers hail from your side of the pond.
I'll bet we're all going to like this one, Shell. I think of PDP as our online book club!
Ms M, it's my pleasure to feature Kim and her book. Featuring books and authors is one of my favorite things to do here and I'm so glad people enjoy it.
Amazon.co.uk has the paperback (prices ranging from £6 to £10) and Kindle version (£7.99). Hooray!
Go for it!
I'm just working on your Camelot Where You Are post for next week! I think I keep saying I'm excited. I need to find a variety of phrases to use because it's true.
Wow, Petrea - thanks for posting this and sharing my book with all of these wonderful people - I'm so thrilled that everyone seems so excited to read it! And in response to some comments, the book jacket makes it sound like a fast-paced action-packed adventure, but in fact it's a character-driven adventure with 2 strong female characters ... for those of you who read it, I hope you enjoy it ... here and in the UK (where it is also published in an original paperback edition). Again, Petrea, thank you so much!!
Kim, you're welcome. It's hard to describe a book so people will want to read it. Yet in the case of "The Map of Lost Memories," that doesn't turn out to be true because its premise is immediately interesting. I hope those who read it will connect with you, perhaps on Goodreads, and let you know what they think.
Sounds like my kind of book. I'm adding it to my list.
