Hair Pyrates

This photo doesn't tell you everything you need to know about Altadena, but it tells you a lot.

One thing it leaves out is the mansions. You would never guess mansions from this photo. Pasadena has mansions, too, but I don't know of a long hair shoppe.

Often, when I drop Boz off at his play date (at Sprocket's) I take side streets to come home. That gives me time to marvel at how lovely Altadena is, and then, once the border is crossed, Pasadena too. Pasadena may have shorter hair, but it's still good lookin'.

Hair Pyrates info (thank you, Katie).

Entries are pouring in (well, they're arriving) for the Camelot Where You Are photo contest! I hope you'll enter! Its easy. Take a photo of Camelot Where You Are and email it to me. I'll post it, and at the end of each week we'll all vote on a winner (I'll recuse myself from the voting). Each weekly winner gets a copy of Camelot & Vine as soon as it's released (I'm shooting for early October). The contest will continue until the date of publication or until I run out of entries, whichever comes sooner. Contest rules are here.
Look around you. You'll see it. There's Camelot where you are.

I haven't seen any long hair shoppes around here. Or long hair shops. Lucky for me, I don't have long hair. Have a lovely Sunday, Petrea!

That place looks awfully familiar to me, Petrea. I used to have lovely long hair but suddenly I'm a baldy-man. I'm convinced the long hair pirates stole it all in the night.

I'm a short hair advocate, at least for myself. I wore my hair to waist length for the first half of my life. Short hair is freedom for me. I don't know how I'd look without hair, but it seems like very little work.

Definitely something about Altadena that is different, different in a good way. Over the past few years, we've found ourselves more and more going up to Altadena.

I tried short hair twice in my life...personally...I really love the ease of long hair!!! When I married TheChief and moved back to Glendale this is exactly what I was looking for!!! Never found a long hair shoppe...but I found a great hairdresser! Now I travel 300+ miles to go see her!!!

It's true, Michael, there's "something about Altadena." Our first taste of the San Gabriel Valley was two years in Altadena, and we'd have bought there had anything been available when we were shopping. As it is, we ended up in Pasadena's Brigadoon, so we're happy.

Chieftess, you're the only person I know personally who goes that far to get her hair done!

Somebody thought up the sign and spelling and it is worthy of a photograph. What fun!

I knew I'd seen the word "pyrates" before.
Among the googled results: "Pyrates is an 1991 comedy film, starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick about a couple who experience pyrokinesis after having sex."

I'm the only person I know who drives 300 miles to get my hair done!! But it's well worth it...cause I get to see our beautiful grandbaby!!!

Petrea Burchard said...

Thanks, LOL. It's a cute spot.

Speedway, I've never heard of that one. I don't think I'll investigate further!

Oh, see, I get it now, Chieftess, you're driving 300 miles to see your grandbaby and hair is secondary.

I can't slip anything past you Petrea!!!

I'm onto you, young lady.

I often drive past the Pyrates store and wonder about the name. It does sound incendiary. Or do they slash hair off with their pirate swords? I have an image of Johnny Depp's long locks from Pirates of the Caribbean.

There aren't any "long hair shoppes" here. People with all lengths of hair have to suffer the ordeal of finding a good stylist.

There used to be a long hair shop in Pasadena, on Colorado just one door east of Altadena Dr. (hmm...Altadena). I think it was called Richard's. There's still a hair salon there, but I don't know if it specializes in long hair.

Hair Pyrates was in business on Lake when we moved to Altadena more than 22 years ago, but I think it was further north at the time. Oh, me, I may be completely wrong about that!

Swords, Bellis, it's got to be swords.

Ha! Ms. M, I don't know what I'd do if Yvette decided to quit Jubilee Salon. Suffer the ordeal, I guess.

Laura I'm thinking there's one on Green in Pasadena, too. I'd better find out.

That sign worked it's magic, now I want to know more about these hair pyrates.

I love the light in yesterday's shot too. Beautiful.

What fun! I will definitely make an appointment here next time I'm in town as I've never seen a place that caters specifically to long hair. Plus I saw more interior photos on Patch and they have paintings of sailing ships, and skulls inside.

Petrea Burchard said...

Lulu, it could be that the pyrates steal hayr.

Oh shoot, Katie, I'm usually so good at linking and I didn't do that. I'll go find it. Thank you.

So cute, it makes me want to grow my hair long again, just so they wouldn't laugh at me when I walked in.

Petrea Burchard said...

I don't know any salons that specialize in medium length hair, Adele, do you?
