You may know I'm publishing my novel, Camelot & Vine. It's about an actress who, on the day before her 40th birthday, loses everything she never cared about, flees Hollywood for England, falls through a gap in time, and accidentally saves King Arthur's life.
A lot more happens after that. Think 6th century Britain, chain mail, love triangles and Saxon invaders.
Publication is underway and it's going to take a few weeks (I'm crossing my fingers for an early October release but I really don't know), and in the meantime I thought we'd have a contest--a Camelot & Vine photo contest--because we can and we want to and we should so we will! The contest is called "Camelot Where You Are."
Here's what you do: find Camelot Where You Are (or where you've been), in whatever representation tickles your fancy (oh, teehee, ouch!), take a picture and send the pic to me. If you tell me it's okay, I'll also add you to my mailing list for email updates.
There's a castle in your town. Yes there is. It might be at the playground or on a business sign or on a product label. There's a shield, too, and a knight (the one above stands at Prestige Auto Service at Lincoln and Orange Grove in Pasadena). Take a photo of the castle, the knight, the sword--whatever represents Camelot to you--and email it to me by clicking on my profile at the upper left. Be sure to put "C&V photo contest" in your subject line. You retain all rights to your photo, and at the same time, by sending it to me you are granting me permission to post it here on PasadenaDailyPhoto.com. One entry per person, please. Larger formats look better when they're posted, so send it big to give yourself the best chance of winning.
I'll begin posting entries next week if I have some by then. I have no idea how many I'll get, so I'm not sure how many I'll post per day (maybe several, maybe by next Friday I'll be begging). The contest will go Tuesday through Friday and we'll vote on the weekends, with a winner every week until Camelot & Vine is published. Everyone who visits the blog will be allowed to vote.
Oh, and just guess what the prizes will be.
Each weekly winner will receive a copy of Camelot & Vine, in the format of his or her choice, as soon as the book becomes available.
Enter now! We all want to see your Camelot!
(P.S. I've posted some Camelot Where You Are shots on the Updates page of my website.)

LOL, I've got an idea! Hopefully, I won't get questioned when I take the pic.....and u are right there are lots of Camelot out there!.
My tiny town may present a challenge - I cannot wait!!! SO happy to hear that the rest of the story is only a few weeks away. Boy, when you decide to do something, you get 'er done - Amazing!
Where I am, you are too, more or less. I'm going to have to be particularly observant to find Camelot where you haven't. I accept the challenge!
I have been waiting for you to publish a photo like the one today (for ages) because I knew that could include more about your book. Gosh, Petrea, you are in the right profession! Imaginative, creative and full of fun. You have given us homework...off to see if there is a Camelot hanging around in Cov :).
Yay! I hope this means four entries so far, and many more. This is going to be fun! Susan, you won't have any trouble, and neither will you, Adele. Camelot is everywhere--in interior design, in fashion, in advertising. We have never let it go.
I have a feeling LOLfromPasa has a bit of a jump on us...
LOL! I love the shield!
I have something in mind---we'll see if I have time this weekend to find it and take a pic and send it to you.
Congrats on the progress on the book!
Love that knight--
Oh I'm soooooooooo cross! There was one Camelot at a pub down my street and it was stolen about 2 months ago - they even put a sign like people do for pets!
Other than that I really wonder where I could find a Camelot in Paris, but I'll try!
How fun, I just love contests...now to find my own camelot for you
Excellent, Trish, I look forward to your entry.
He's quite gallant, is he not, Des?
Eric, you're in Paris, the place is full of castles! Old stonework! Dreams! It IS Camelot for some people. Feel free to stretch the idea and use your imagination.
Frank, I know you'll find something good. The SGV is surprisingly loaded with references to knights, castles, armor, etc. Once I started seeing it I see it everywhere.
A 'camelot' down under? I will give it a burble, just for you, Petrea. I'll see if I can find one in that old 'left field' ...
Squee! I can't wait to read C&V. Will it be cheating if I send a photo of some of the actual sixth century British stuff we have laying around my neighbourhood? I must confess I'd rather find a fun suit of armour like the one in your photo … I'll have a hunt around the city tomorrow and see what I can find.
Hang on a minute people, I have to travel at least 12 miles to my nearest castle. Anyway, Mr LOL is wondering did the knight in Petrea's picture arrive on the mustang behind him? Classy steed, me thinks.
If I've got Camelot at my local drugstore, Julie, I'll bet you've got something down under!
Dive, that's more than fair. I've already received an entry from Crusader country!
Steeds! There's another thing, LOL. Imaginations are allowed to run wild in this contest. After all I'm not the judge, you all are the judges, and Camelot is a place of our fancy.
Hmmm. Time to start thinking and looking....
Great idea, Petrea. BTW, got an advance purchase price on Camelot & Vine?
Anne, I hadn't thought of that and I'm not sure how to do it. I'll find out within a few days and let you know. Thanks for asking!
What a great contest! I'm sure you'll get lots of fun entries. Does Where I've Been count or does the photo have to be from Where I Am now?
I'm digging around B"ham for one. I'll let you know.
V
Katie, thanks for asking. I changed the copy to include "Where You've Been" because yes, that counts.
All right, Virginia! I know you've got plenty of Camelot in Alabama.
Sounds like fun! I'll have to take a look around and see what's around here.
Looking forward to seeing what others send :-)
Congratulations for your novel Camelot & Vine. Interesting pic of the knight with the signs there. Im an amateur photographer and not much of a writer, but can write about topics I feel strongly. Back with CityDailyphoto after 3 years.
I'm also looking forward to the entries, Ms. M. I've already received a couple. I can't wait to see yours!
Hello, MumbaiiteAnu! I just saw you on the CDP Facebook page. Welcome back!
I'm late with this as I've been to LAX to get a plane ticket to Britain. I'm going to photograph the REAL Camelot! See how competitive I am?
Failing that, I'm looking for a big vine!
This is one of a kind knight. I think I can top that. Got to search for that Camelot and take his picture. And some castles too. This is so exciting.
send gifts to uk
Sounds like a great challenge!
Oh, Bellis, that's exciting. Stiff competition is welcome! But why did you have to go to the airport to get a ticket?
Please do, mia rose, we'll be happy to see them.
Hi Meghan, welcome! I'll bet there's plenty of Camelot in Chattanooga.
Hmmm...I wonder where I can find a bear in armour up here???
Can't wait for your book!!!
Me either, Chieftess! And I have a feeling you have a particular bear in mind.
Hmmm. Did knights go to the beach? I'll be on the lookout for a little bit of Camelot here. So glad the book is in production.
Bayside, I can practically guarantee you can find Camelot at the beach.
Hi Petrea, this is really a nice knight :-)
p.s. many thanks for visiting my blog, and many thanks to Dina too.
Hi Karl! Thanks, he doesn't hold a candle to the dashing knights in your post, but he will have to do for now!
Thinking, thinking thinking. We must have something around here.
Don't think too hard. Be the Camelot.
