Camelot Where You Are, #12

There are castles all over Pasadena's City Hall, but I never noticed them until I toured the place with former Public Information Officer Ann Erdman. This castle tops the lantern in the front entry breezeway. I posted a photo of it the day after the tour. Sort of.

Mister Earl took the bait. But I'm telling you, there's more where that came from.

Thank you, Mister Earl!

Get ready to vote this weekend for your favorite entry in this week's installment of the Camelot Where you Are photo contest! We've been having a blast and we've got more photos coming next week.

Each weekly winner receives a free copy of Camelot & Vine upon publication, which I plan/hope/expect will be in October. Publication day, whatever day it turns out to be, will be the final day for entries.

Send in your pic now! It's easy to enter and anyone can do it.

And complete with fleur-de-lis!
Fantastic!
City Hall should have a gift shop selling copies of this. I'm sure all of your readers, now in Camelot fever, would want one.

Mr. Earl is smart!. I went back to your post on this hall!...The lantern is quite detailed as well as decorative.

Many people call Pasadena the City of Roses but that's Portland, Oregon. Pasadena is the Crown City. The architectural firm Bakewell and Brown, designers of City Hall, incorporated crowns, castles and other symbols of royalty into the exterior design elements. They're all hiding in plain sight!

Ah, yes, I see those castles. Love the photo, Mr. Earl.

I'm so sorry I missed Ann's tour. Her comment makes me want to go to city hall and look for all those hidden symbols of royalty.

What a delightful little castle! Great photo Mr. Earl. Ann's tour sounds like a lot of fun; especially looking for all the hidden royal symbols.

It's beautiful. Never connected Crown City with castles, etc. It makes sense! PB, more book signing ideas?

Dina, City Hall has a gift shop of sorts, on the second floor at the City Council offices you can purchase key chains, coffee cups, etc. (I think I've bought one of everything). No lanterns, but I think they'd sell!

KBF, I agree, it's a lovely thing.

I noticed, but didn't notice, the details until you showed them to me, Ann. Here's one of my favorite links on the city's website: http://ww2.cityofpasadena.net/cityhall/history.asp

Susan, as Ann says, it's a public building and you can go wander there any time.

Maybe next time you're here, Katie!

Adele, with my contacts Ann and Linda no longer working there, I wonder! But wouldn't it be a fantastic location?

Wowee! Well spotted, Petrea!

Well, technically, Ann spotted this, then Mister Earl spotted it. Now you've all spotted it. It's spotted for good.

I found out he took his before I took mine. I took some showing the castles, but I'm saving them. I don't know what I'm saving them fore.

Who'd have thought? I has no idea these castles were up there. Now you've made me want to go look around for more castles and symbols. Maybe the odd white knight or two? More fun than going there for Council meetings or paying parking fines.

In all the many, many times I've looked at the lanterns at City Hall, I've never noticed the castles and crowns. I will now. And Ann, I will look for all the "Easter eggs" in other places.

Speaking of hidden treasures--have you noticed all the symbols and biographical elements "cut" into the hair on the busts of the Robinson brothers?

Ms M said...

Yes, well-spotted! The detail is lovely.

White knights at City Hall, Bellis? It's been known to happen.

Laura refers to these busts across from City Hall

I only shot the front that time, not the back. I've said many times, I will never run out of things to photograph in Pasadena.

Mister Earl is an eagle eye, Ms. M.

I had a feeling that was where you were. Well done, Mr. Earl.

Lucky you to live in the Crown City.

I lusted over the ceiling and lamp in your post, Petrea. I'm smitten all over again. What a subtle take on Camelot by Mr. Earl. I like it!
